The Dyson V15s Detect Submarine combines a cordless dry vacuum with a separate wet roller for washing hard floors. Its appeal is convenience: one machine handles dry vacuuming and routine wet cleaning. The trade-off is that the Submarine head is limited to hard floors, needs care after use, and cannot be added to an existing V15. It makes the most sense if you regularly wash hard floors and want the dry-vacuum features too.
What the V15s Detect Submarine includes
This is a dry vacuum and a hard-floor washer in one system, not a single head that switches between vacuuming and mopping. Dry cleaning uses separate vacuum heads; wet cleaning uses the dedicated Submarine roller.

Dyson’s US product page lists the Submarine wet roller, Fluffy Optic, and Digital Motorbar heads. Included heads and accessories can vary by country and listing, so check the exact bundle offered in your market before buying. Dyson’s US product page describes up to 60 minutes of runtime, but that is a manufacturer maximum: Dyson says actual runtime varies with power mode, dust level, floor type, and attachments. It should not be read as a typical-use result.
How the wet-cleaning system works
Dyson says the motor-driven roller uses clean water to tackle spills and tough stains. Its launch announcement describes a plate that extracts contaminated water from the roller into a separate waste-water tray. Dyson also says power diversion and mode detection keep water from entering the motor. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of the design, not independently verified engineering findings. Only the Submarine wet roller should be used to collect wet debris or liquid spills. The dry-vacuum heads are not substitutes for it when handling liquids.
Does it work on carpets?
No. Dyson says the wet roller is engineered for hard floors, not carpet. Use the appropriate dry-vacuum head for carpets; the wet-cleaning function is for hard-floor surfaces. Dyson’s product FAQ states this limitation.

Can you use detergent when wet cleaning?
Dyson permits gentle common household detergent, diluted according to the detergent maker’s instructions. Do not put undiluted detergent in the clean-water tank, and do not use bleach. The cleaning solution guidance comes from Dyson’s product FAQ.
Does the wet roller fit an existing Dyson V15?
No. Dyson says the V15s is reprogrammed for wet cleaning, making its wet roller head incompatible with other Dyson vacuums, including a V15 bought earlier. Dyson also says the complete wet roller head is not sold separately as an accessory. That makes the wet-cleaning capability a reason to buy the V15s itself, not an upgrade path for an existing V15. What maintenance does the wet roller require?
Wet cleaning adds a recurring care step: Dyson advises washing the roller after each cleaning session. The company recommends replacing the roller every six months, depending on use. Dyson Canada lists a replacement Submarine roller; this is the roller, not the complete wet roller head that Dyson says is unavailable separately. TechRadar’s buying guide, reported September 18, 2026, describes the V15s as effective on hard floors but says pausing can leave streaks and removing the wet head can spill dirty water. The central question is whether you will use the wet roller often enough to justify its care routine and the V15s-specific purchase. It is a stronger fit for homes that need both cordless dry vacuuming and frequent hard-floor washing. If wet washing is occasional, or you mainly need carpet cleaning, the added wet-cleaning system may be less useful than a dry vacuum alone.

- Consider how much of your home is carpet versus hard flooring, and how often you wash the hard floors.
- Compare the convenience of one combined machine with keeping separate dry and wet-cleaning tools.
- Verify the dry-floor heads and accessories in the exact local bundle.
- Account for washing the roller after each session, roller replacement, and handling the dirty-water tray.
- Check current price, warranty, return terms, and replacement-part availability in your market; these commercial terms can change.
