What should a first-time survival player do first?
Use the game’s tutorial and narrative prompts as your route into its systems rather than treating Arrakis as an unstructured sandbox. Funcom says tutorials, reminders, and the story are designed to introduce core elements and ease players in. PlayStation’s listing also describes adjustable difficulty and control and tutorial reminders, useful if you want to tune the experience or revisit guidance.
- Follow the tutorial and story prompts. They introduce survival, tools, weapons, and abilities as you progress.
- Make thirst a regular concern. Water is a core survival need; the game also describes extracting liquid from enemies and refining it into water.
- Read the terrain and weather. Favor rocky ground to reduce the risk from sandworms, seek shade, and hide when sandstorms arrive.
- Expand into crafting and a base as the game teaches those systems. Treat machinery and production as progression, not as equipment you must have at the start.
The official guidance establishes these principles, but not a precise opening route, exact hydration thresholds, recipes, or resource counts. Use the current in-game prompts for those details.
How do solo and multiplayer differ?
The complete game and story are available in single-player, so you do not need a group to experience the full game. In multiplayer, you can play with friends or on public servers; according to the publisher, PvP is optional and the game can be played in PvE. Single-player has no PvP.

Manage thirst
Thirst is one of the basic pressures of survival. PlayStation describes extracting liquid from enemies and refining it into water, while Funcom’s help guidance advises managing thirst by consuming water or blood. Follow the game’s instructions for what to collect and how to process it; the available official guidance does not establish a complete recipe or exact quantities.

Use terrain and shelter to respond to hazards
- Sandworms: Stick to rocky ground where possible. Funcom identifies it as a way to avoid the ever-present sandworms.
- Sandstorms: Find a place to hide when a storm hits rather than continuing across exposed terrain.
- Heat and exposure: Seek shade, a survival concept highlighted in the PlayStation listing.
- Enemies: Treat them as both a threat and, where the game allows, a source of liquid for water production.
These are broad survival priorities, not guarantees of safety. The reviewed official guidance does not provide safe coordinates or a hazard timetable.
How do crafting and your first base fit into progression?
A base is a practical home for crafting and other progression systems, not a requirement to build a fully equipped stronghold immediately. PlayStation describes bases ranging from small outposts to large strongholds, with crafting machines and spice refineries. Funcom says players can claim territory and develop a base of operations; as progression advances, infrastructure can include fabricators, refineries, power generators, and wind and water machinery. You can also craft survival gadgets and vehicles.

Think in terms of a growing base
- Start with the role of the base: a place to support crafting and progression.
- Add production systems as they become available: machinery such as fabricators, refineries, generators, and wind or water equipment belongs to a developing operation.
- Use the game’s current build guidance: the official sources do not establish a best first-base location, required footprint, exact build order, or material costs.
Base-saving and protections against base or vehicle loss have changed in launch materials, and reconstruction behavior depends on mode and current implementation. Check the current game interface or applicable patch notes before relying on a particular recovery procedure.
Which PS5 graphics mode should you choose?
In a July 2, 2026 PlayStation Blog post, Funcom CMO Erling Ellingsen announced the following targets. These are developer-stated targets, not independent performance test results.

Funcom also described upscaled 4K in both modes. The same post says the interface and controls were tailored for console. Choose between the modes based on your preference; the published figures alone do not establish how performance behaves in every scene.
