In a Steam session, compare DroidDeck’s two controller modes at Steam page → Touch & controls → Controller: Steam Deck controller is the default, while Xbox 360 controller is the documented alternative to try when a game’s expected layout differs. If neither mode helps, save the session folder from Download/DroidDeck for a report to the official project.
Find where the controller input stops
Controller input passes through several layers: Android recognizes the hardware, DroidDeck handles the session, Steam presents a controller interface, and the game interprets the resulting input. Pinpointing the failing layer helps you choose a useful next step instead of changing unrelated settings.
- Android does not respond to the controller: The problem appears to be at or below Android’s recognition of the device. The Android compatibility specification says HID events map to Android
InputEventconstants, but that does not establish that a particular controller, DroidDeck build, or game will behave correctly. See the Android 11 Compatibility Definition. - DroidDeck menus do not respond: The failure occurs before you can confirm how Steam or the game handles input. Note whether the controller works elsewhere in Android and include that observation in a bug report.
- Steam navigation works, but a game ignores input: The handoff from Steam’s controller interface to the game, including Steam Input behavior, is a likely place to investigate.
- A game responds, but buttons or axes are wrong: Compare DroidDeck’s controller modes and consider whether Steam Input is enabled for that game.
This is a diagnostic way to narrow down the problem, not a project-published test that guarantees a particular cause.
Compare DroidDeck’s controller modes
During a Steam session, open Steam page → Touch & controls → Controller. The project’s progress log identifies Steam Deck controller as the default and Xbox 360 controller as the alternative. Labels can differ between builds, so check the controls in your installed version. The available modes and their documented behavior are described in the DroidDeck release notes and the official DroidDeck repository.

- Open the Steam page in your DroidDeck session.
- Select Touch & controls → Controller.
- Note the current mode, then select the other mode.
- Recheck the same game and the same input that failed. If the problem is specific to one title, note whether Steam Input is enabled for it.
Check whether the game depends on Steam Input
DroidDeck’s release notes describe the Steam Deck controller route as exposing Steam Input virtual pads to games. The Xbox 360 option is documented as an alternative axis layout for games with Steam Input disabled. Consequently, a controller can appear in Steam while a game still ignores input or interprets buttons differently: the game’s result depends on the selected mode and its Steam Input configuration.
If Steam already sees the controller, the documented next step for a mapping mismatch is to compare the modes—not to assume Bluetooth pairing, a new controller, or other hardware will fix the game’s input route.

Save logs and report a persistent problem
If changing modes does not resolve the issue, reproduce it and preserve the session folder in Download/DroidDeck. The project README asks bug reporters to attach that folder; release notes say shared logs include controller and touch-mode details. Submit through the official issue tracker or community channels linked from the repository.

Use official DroidDeck sources
DroidDeck’s repository says the project has no standalone website and warns readers not to use download links from websites claiming to represent the team. Use the official GitHub repository and its linked releases for project information. Compatibility varies by device, and the available project documentation does not provide a complete compatibility matrix covering controllers, Android versions, and games.
