DraftKings and FanDuel both document ways to set limits and pause or exclude yourself, but the available terms do not support a fair nationwide ranking of their controls or promotion-personalization systems. The clearest comparison is jurisdiction-specific: DraftKings describes account-level deposit limits and several Fantasy Sports controls, while FanDuel’s published District of Columbia terms spell out deposit or wager limits, time limits, and self-exclusion. Both operators say self-exclusion suppresses marketing or promotions, with important consequences for account access and funds.
What can be compared—and what cannot
The details below come from DraftKings’ published support and responsible-gaming guidance, FanDuel Sportsbook’s District of Columbia terms last updated July 22, 2026, and DraftKings’ 2025 Form 10-K filed February 13, 2026. They are not a national rulebook: DraftKings says self-exclusion options depend on jurisdiction, and the FanDuel terms discussed here apply specifically to the District of Columbia. Check the controls and terms shown in your own account and location.
| Topic | DraftKings | FanDuel | How to read the comparison |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deposit limits | Daily, weekly, or monthly account-level limits; DraftKings says they apply across its products. (DraftKings support guidance) | Deposit limits are described in the District of Columbia terms. (FanDuel Sportsbook D.C. terms, updated July 22, 2026) | The FanDuel terms cited here are D.C.-specific; the sources do not establish a like-for-like nationwide comparison. |
| Other play limits | Fantasy Sports controls include entry-count and entry-fee limits; DraftKings also describes cool-off periods from 3 days to 4 weeks. (DraftKings support guidance) | The D.C. terms describe wager and time limits, as well as a user-selected account suspension of at least 72 hours. (FanDuel Sportsbook D.C. terms, updated July 22, 2026) | These are different products and control types. Verify which options are available in your local account. |
| Self-exclusion and promotions | During exclusion, DraftKings says users cannot log in or wager and will not receive direct marketing. (DraftKings self-exclusion help page) | The D.C. terms say exclusion stops targeted marketing and bonuses under the applicable bonus terms. (FanDuel Sportsbook D.C. terms, updated July 22, 2026) | These terms describe marketing suppression during exclusion, not a general marketing opt-out or how offers are selected. |
| Access to funds during exclusion | Funds remain in the account; a user must contact support to request a withdrawal during exclusion. (DraftKings self-exclusion help page) | The D.C. terms describe cancellation and return of pending wagers and a process for paying cashable balances. (FanDuel Sportsbook D.C. terms, updated July 22, 2026) | Read the applicable local terms before starting an exclusion, especially if you have pending wagers or a balance. |
How do DraftKings and FanDuel promotions compare?
The documented comparison is about what happens to promotions when an account is self-excluded—not which operator offers more, targets users more accurately, or provides a separate way to stop marketing. DraftKings says it will not send direct marketing during a self-exclusion period. FanDuel’s D.C. terms say self-exclusion opts a user out of bonuses under its bonus terms and prevents targeted marketing. The cited materials do not establish how either company chooses offers or whether a standalone marketing preference is available outside self-exclusion.

What account controls does DraftKings describe?
Deposit and Fantasy Sports limits
DraftKings describes daily, weekly, and monthly deposit limits set at the account level and says they apply across DraftKings products. Its Fantasy Sports guidance also describes limits on the number of entries and the fees paid to enter. Those Fantasy Sports controls are not the same thing as a sportsbook wager limit.
For Fantasy Sports, the DraftKings page lists state-required monthly ceilings of $2,500 in Tennessee, $1,000 in Massachusetts, and $5,000 in Maryland, and says users may choose lower limits. These figures apply to the stated Fantasy Sports context; they should not be read as sportsbook-wide limits or as figures for every DraftKings customer.
Rank #2
Cool-off and self-exclusion
DraftKings describes Fantasy Sports cool-off periods from 3 days to 4 weeks. A cool-off is distinct from self-exclusion: the page separately lists self-exclusion durations of one year, three years, five years, or lifetime, with options varying by jurisdiction. It also notes shorter Fantasy Sports-only periods in specified circumstances.

The page says the exclusion cannot be shortened and applies across locations. Funds remain in the account, but a withdrawal request during exclusion requires support assistance.

What controls appear in FanDuel’s District of Columbia terms?
FanDuel’s Sportsbook terms for the District of Columbia describe daily, weekly, or monthly gaming limits, including deposit or wager limits, as well as time limits. They also provide for user-selected account suspension for at least 72 hours. These are the terms for D.C.; they do not establish what FanDuel offers in another state or jurisdiction.
Under those D.C. terms, self-exclusion prevents targeted marketing and bonuses under the applicable bonus terms. Pending wagers are canceled and their stakes returned. The terms also describe a monthly check process for cashable balances of at least $1 and procedures for paying those balances. Because exclusion affects open wagers, promotions, and access to account funds, review the local terms before activating it.

DraftKings’ 2025 Form 10-K reports that Baltimore sued DraftKings and FanDuel in April 2025. The City alleged that the operators used data to target vulnerable Baltimore users and engaged in deceptive or abusive practices involving promotions, including bonus-bet and no-sweat-bet terms, urgency, and VIP rewards allegedly directed at people with a gaming disorder. These are allegations summarized in a company filing, not findings that the operators acted unlawfully.

Choosing a control that fits the situation
- To manage deposits: Look for a deposit limit and choose a period and amount that fit your needs. DraftKings describes daily, weekly, and monthly account-level deposit limits; FanDuel’s cited D.C. terms also describe deposit limits.
- To manage wagering or time: Check whether your local account offers wager limits or time limits. These are separate from deposit limits: a deposit cap limits money added, while a wager limit or time limit addresses different aspects of play.
- To pause temporarily: Distinguish a cool-off from a user-selected account suspension. DraftKings describes Fantasy Sports cool-offs of 3 days to 4 weeks; FanDuel’s D.C. terms describe suspension for at least 72 hours.
- To stop access for longer: Review self-exclusion terms carefully. It is more consequential than a limit or short pause and can affect login, wagering, promotions, and withdrawal procedures.
DraftKings’ responsible-gaming guidance advises customers to set time and dollar limits, avoid chasing losses, and treat wagering as entertainment rather than a financial strategy. Its wording is direct: “Set a time and dollar limit and stick to it.”
