If Windows is not detecting a Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO phone correctly, there is an important distinction: Xiaomi does not currently publish a clearly labeled standalone smartphone USB-driver package on its global support site. The correct Windows driver depends on what you are trying to do—transfer files, use ADB, or use Fastboot.
For the safest setup, use Windows Update or Device Manager first. If you need Android debugging tools, install Google’s separate Platform-Tools package. Do not mistake Google’s Google USB Driver for an official universal Xiaomi driver: Google says that driver is intended for Google devices, while other Android manufacturers provide their own drivers.
Is there an official Xiaomi USB driver download?
Not as a current, clearly labeled standalone smartphone driver download on Xiaomi Global Support. Xiaomi’s global support page does not currently expose a dedicated “USB Driver” or “Downloads” entry for Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO phones.
Xiaomi’s official unlock page provides the Mi Unlock application, not a separate Xiaomi USB-driver package. It also describes the Fastboot unlock workflow, which requires a Mi Account and the Mi Unlock app.

Choose the correct driver or tool
| What you want to do | What you need |
|---|---|
| Transfer photos and files | A suitable Windows Android/MTP device driver, normally obtained automatically through Windows |
| Run ADB commands | USB debugging enabled on the phone, a working ADB interface, and Google Platform-Tools |
| Unlock the bootloader or flash images | Fastboot, Google Platform-Tools, and the Xiaomi Mi Unlock app for Xiaomi’s unlock workflow |
| Use a Google Pixel device | Google USB Driver—not a universal driver for Xiaomi phones |
Method 1: Let Windows install the driver automatically
Windows 10 and Windows 11 can search for an appropriate driver through Device Manager and Windows Update.
- Connect the Xiaomi phone to the PC with a data-capable USB cable.
- Unlock the phone and select the appropriate USB mode if Android displays a USB notification. For file transfers, choose File transfer or MTP.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the category containing the phone. It may appear under Portable Devices, Android Device, Universal Serial Bus devices, or as an unknown device.
- Right-click the Xiaomi, Android, or unknown entry and select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If Windows finds nothing, select Search for updated drivers on Windows Update.
- Select Close when the process finishes.
If the phone is not listed, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers and look for an entry that appears or disappears when you unplug and reconnect the phone.
Method 2: Install a driver manually with Device Manager
Use this method when you already have a compatible, trustworthy driver folder. A ZIP file cannot normally be selected directly: Microsoft’s installation procedure requires the driver files to be uncompressed first.

What to do when Windows says the best driver is already installed
The message “The best drivers for your device are already installed” does not prove that the correct Android interface is working. Windows may consider the installed driver an equal or newer match even when it is not the driver needed for ADB, MTP, or Fastboot.
Check the device entry while the phone is in the exact mode you are testing. For example, a phone can work in ordinary Android mode but appear as an unknown device when booted into Fastboot.
For a clean reinstall:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the affected device and select Uninstall device.
- In the Uninstall Device dialog, select Uninstall.
- Right-click Start and choose Shut down or sign out > Restart.
After restarting, Windows attempts to reinstall the driver. Reconnect the phone and check Device Manager again.

Verify an Android connection with ADB
- Extract Platform-Tools to a simple folder, such as C:\platform-tools.
- On the phone, open Settings > About phone and tap MIUI version or the corresponding OS build entry repeatedly until Developer options are enabled. The exact label can vary by Xiaomi software version.
- Open Settings > Additional settings > Developer options.
- Enable USB debugging.
- Connect the phone and open a Command Prompt or PowerShell window in the extracted platform-tools folder.
- Run adb devices.
On the first connection, unlock the phone and accept the RSA authorization dialog. A working connection appears with the state device. For more detail, run adb devices -l.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Common states include device, offline, and no device. An offline result means the phone is not connected to ADB correctly or is not responding.
If ADB is stuck, run adb kill-server. Running another ADB command starts the server again. If several phones are connected, select one explicitly using its serial number, for example: adb -s serial_number command.
Fastboot uses a different interface
ADB works while Android is running and USB debugging is enabled. Fastboot works in the bootloader and is used for operations such as unlocking and flashing. They are not the same connection mode, so a phone may appear in ADB but fail to appear in Fastboot.

To enter Fastboot using Xiaomi’s documented method:
- Shut down the phone manually.
- Hold Volume down and Power until Fastboot mode appears.
- Connect the phone to the PC.
- In the Platform-Tools folder, run fastboot devices.
While the phone is in Fastboot, inspect Device Manager. Windows may assign a different driver interface than it uses for normal Android or ADB mode. If the device is unknown or has a warning icon, repeat the manual installation process while it remains in Fastboot.
Use Xiaomi Mi Unlock for the official unlock process
Xiaomi’s official unlock workflow requires the Mi Unlock application and a Mi Account. The Xiaomi unlock page instructs you to download Mi Unlock to the PC, sign in with your Mi Account, enter Fastboot mode, connect the phone, and select Unlock.
Installing Platform-Tools alone does not unlock a Xiaomi bootloader. Bootloader unlocking can erase data and may involve Xiaomi account or waiting requirements, so back up the phone and follow the instructions shown by Mi Unlock.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the phone still may not appear
- Wrong cable: some USB cables provide power but no data connection.
- Wrong USB mode: charging-only mode will not expose the phone as an MTP device.
- Wrong phone mode: Android, recovery, and Fastboot can use different Windows interfaces.
- USB debugging disabled: ADB requires Developer options > USB debugging.
- RSA prompt ignored: unlock the phone and approve the computer’s key.
- Incorrect driver match: Windows may report that the best driver is already installed while the interface is still wrong.
- USB port or hub problem: connect directly to the PC and try another port.
- Conflicting ADB installations: close other Android tools and run the ADB executable from the intended Platform-Tools folder.

Is Google USB Driver the official driver for Xiaomi phones?
No. Google states that its Google USB Driver is for Google devices. It should not be described as a universal or official Xiaomi driver.
What is the difference between Platform-Tools and the Google USB Driver?
Platform-Tools contains the command-line programs adb and fastboot. A USB driver lets Windows communicate with a device interface. They are separate downloads and serve different purposes.
Why does ADB show no device?
Enable Settings > Additional settings > Developer options > USB debugging, use a data cable, unlock the phone, accept the RSA authorization prompt, and run adb devices again. You can also reset the server with adb kill-server.
Why does ADB work but Fastboot not work?
Fastboot is a different connection mode and may require a different Windows driver interface. Enter Fastboot with the phone powered off by holding Volume down and Power, then inspect the device entry in Device Manager while it is still in Fastboot.
The Tool Desk

Usually no. Extract the ZIP first, then use Update driver > Browse my computer for drivers and select the extracted folder.
The Bottom Line
There is no current, clearly labeled Xiaomi smartphone USB-driver package on Xiaomi Global Support. Start with Windows’ automatic driver search, use an extracted compatible driver folder for manual installation, and install Google Platform-Tools separately when you need ADB or Fastboot. Enable USB debugging for ADB, remember that Fastboot uses a different interface, and use Xiaomi’s Mi Unlock app for the official bootloader-unlock workflow.
