You generally cannot download and install Amazon’s Alexa for PC on an arbitrary Windows computer today. Amazon staff said general downloads ended on March 30, 2023, although older Amazon PC pages still mention Microsoft Store installation; treat those instructions as stale unless Amazon’s availability page confirms otherwise. If your PC was sold with Alexa Built-in, check whether it is already installed.
Can Alexa be installed on any Windows PC?
Generally, no. Amazon staff responses say Alexa for PC is no longer available for general download, and an earlier staff response said the app was no longer available in the Microsoft Store. Amazon’s older FAQ and marketing pages remain online and still mention Store installation, so their instructions should not be taken as proof that a new installation is currently available. The FAQ directs readers to Amazon’s Alexa for PC page for the latest availability.
Amazon describes Alexa for PC on select Windows PCs, rather than as a general Windows download. Its guidance lists availability in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and India, in US English, and notes that availability and features vary by location and device. Some features offered on Echo devices are not available in the PC app.
Check whether Alexa is already installed
If your computer was sold with Alexa Built-in, the app may already be present. Amazon says to look in the taskbar, Start menu, or Windows Search.

Amazon distinguishes certified Alexa Built-in PCs from computers that merely display Alexa messaging after purchase. A general Windows PC is not guaranteed to include the app.
What to do if Alexa is installed
Open Alexa from Windows Search, the Start menu, or the taskbar and sign in with your Amazon account. If the app is not working, consult the computer manufacturer’s support guidance for your exact model. Avoid uninstalling a working installation unless you are prepared for the possibility that you cannot reinstall it.
Why the Microsoft Store method may not work
Older instructions say to open the Microsoft Store, search for Alexa, and select Get or Install. Amazon staff responses say the general PC app is no longer available to download, even though older Amazon pages still describe Store installation.

An old product page, saved link, or search result does not establish that a package can be installed. Microsoft says app availability can also be affected by compatibility, region, account, or family settings, but in Alexa’s case the more direct issue is Amazon’s statement that general downloads ended. Changing your Windows region is not a supported way to restore the app.

Does Amazon Appstore on Windows provide a workaround?
No. The Amazon Appstore for Windows was a separate Windows 11 route based on Windows Subsystem for Android, not a Windows 10 Alexa installer. Microsoft says Windows Subsystem for Android and Amazon Appstore ceased to be available in the Microsoft Store starting March 5, 2025. That route does not provide a current way to install Alexa on Windows.
Should you sideload an Alexa AppX or MSIX package?
No, not if you need an official, dependable installation. Amazon’s cited guidance does not endorse third-party package downloads or sideloading. An old package may be incomplete, incompatible, or unable to receive updates or connect to Amazon services, and an untrusted download may pose security risks.

Practical alternatives for using Alexa
If Alexa is not already installed on your PC, these options let you use Alexa without installing the Windows app:
- Use the official mobile Alexa app: Download it from your phone or tablet’s app store.
- Set up an Echo device: Amazon’s setup instructions use the mobile Alexa app to configure Echo devices. This provides Alexa through separate hardware; it does not install Alexa on Windows.
- Check your PC manufacturer’s support page: If your model was sold with Alexa Built-in, consult its model-specific guidance.
Bottom line for Windows users
Amazon staff says Alexa for PC is no longer generally downloadable, despite older Amazon pages that still describe Microsoft Store installation. Check Windows Search, Start, and the taskbar in case your computer came with Alexa Built-in. If it is not present, use the mobile Alexa app and a compatible Alexa-enabled device rather than relying on old Store links, the discontinued Amazon Appstore route, or third-party packages.

Does using the Alexa mobile app install Alexa on my PC?
No. The mobile app can be used to configure supported Alexa-enabled devices such as Echo speakers, but it does not install Alexa for PC.
