Microsoft does not currently direct Windows 10 users to download Hindi Indic Input 2 or 3. Instead, add Hindi’s built-in Indic Phonetic keyboard in Language settings, then switch to it from the taskbar or with Windows key + Space.
The phonetic keyboard lets you type Hindi using Latin-letter pronunciation: entering namaste, for example, can produce the Hindi suggestion नमस्ते. It is a Windows feature, not a separate 32-bit or 64-bit Hindi Indic Input installer.
What happened to Hindi Indic Input 2 and 3?
Hindi Indic Input 2 and Hindi Indic Input 3 were older downloadable Microsoft language-input tools. Their names still appear on third-party download pages, but Microsoft’s current documentation does not identify either package as a current Windows 10 download.
Windows now provides Indic phonetic keyboards as language features. The phonetic keyboard uses pronunciation-based transliteration with rules based on ISO 15919. It is separate from the older installer-based products and should not be confused with a current “Hindi Indic Input 3” setup program.

Safety note: Third-party websites may offer files named Hindi Indic Input 3 32-bit, Hindi Indic Input 3 64-bit, or similar. These are mirrors or reposts, not current Microsoft-hosted downloads. Microsoft’s current guidance points to Windows Settings; it does not establish the authenticity, signing status, or currency of mirrored installers.
Install Hindi phonetic typing in Windows 10
Use this Microsoft-supported route:
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Go to Time & language.
- Select Language.
- Under Preferred languages, select Hindi. If Hindi is not listed, add it first with Add a preferred language.
- Select Options.
- In Language options: Hindi, find Basic typing.
- Select Download.
Windows downloads the Hindi typing components. The Indic phonetic dictionary may continue downloading in the background through Windows Update, so the keyboard may not work fully immediately after you add it.
If Hindi is not already installed
- Open Start > Settings > Time & language > Language.
- Under Preferred languages, select Add a preferred language.
- Search for Hindi, select it, and choose Next.
- Install the language features you need. Make sure Basic typing is selected.
- Return to Hindi under Preferred languages, select Options, and confirm that Basic typing has finished downloading.
Switch to the Hindi Indic Phonetic keyboard
After Hindi and Basic typing are installed, change keyboards in either of these ways:
- Select the language indicator on the right side of the taskbar, then choose the Hindi phonetic keyboard.
- Press Windows key + Space repeatedly until the Hindi keyboard is selected.
Open Notepad or another text editor and type a word using Latin letters. Review the candidate suggestions and select the Hindi spelling you want. For example:

Suggestions can vary according to the letters entered and the dictionary available on the system.

Hindi phonetic versus Hindi Traditional INSCRIPT
Windows includes two different Hindi keyboard approaches:

| Indic Phonetic | Type Hindi sounds with Latin letters and select transliterated suggestions. | Users familiar with Hindi pronunciation but not the Devanagari keyboard layout. |
| Indic Traditional INSCRIPT | Type using the standardized Devanagari keyboard layout. | Users trained to type directly with an INSCRIPT layout. |
If you want to type namaste and receive नमस्ते, choose the phonetic option rather than Traditional INSCRIPT.
Fix common installation problems
The Hindi keyboard appears, but phonetic suggestions do not work
This usually means Basic typing or the phonetic dictionary is still downloading. Check the following:
- Go to Start > Settings > Time & language > Language.
- Select Hindi > Options.
- Look under Basic typing for a pending download.
- Connect to the internet and allow Windows Update time to complete.
- Restart the application where you are typing, or restart Windows after the download finishes.
If Windows Update is paused, blocked by a metered connection, or unable to contact Microsoft’s update service, the dictionary may be delayed.
Hindi is installed but the wrong keyboard is selected
Press Windows key + Space and check the complete keyboard name. Hindi may have more than one layout installed. Select the entry identified as an Indic phonetic keyboard, not Hindi Traditional INSCRIPT.

Hindi does not appear under Preferred languages
Use Add a preferred language on the Language settings page and search for Hindi. If the language pack cannot download, check your internet connection, Windows Update status, available storage, and organization policies that may restrict optional language features.
What about old Hindi Indic Input 3 installers?
Legacy documentation describes an installer called Hindi Indic Input 3 Setup. For an old, trusted copy already in hand, those instructions may include running the setup program or right-clicking Setup.exe and selecting Run as Administrator.

The legacy guide documents Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8, with equivalent 64-bit compatibility; it is not current Microsoft confirmation for Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Do not treat old claims about requiring Microsoft Office 2007, Access, or a particular 32-bit or 64-bit installer as requirements for Windows 10’s built-in Indic Phonetic keyboard. The built-in keyboard is installed from Windows language settings and does not use the legacy Office-based installation process.
Windows 10 support status
Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025. As of August 7, 2026, Microsoft no longer provides ordinary free Windows Update software updates, technical support, or security fixes for Windows 10. This does not remove the built-in Hindi keyboard, but a new installation may be less dependable if update services or language-component downloads are unavailable.

If you are setting up a new computer, upgrading to a supported Windows release is preferable. On an existing Windows 10 installation, use the built-in language method before searching for an old Hindi Indic Input installer.

Can I still download Hindi Indic Input 3 from Microsoft?
Microsoft’s current documentation does not list a current Hindi Indic Input 3 download. It directs Windows users to the built-in Indic Phonetic keyboard under Hindi language settings. Files offered by third-party sites are legacy mirrors, not current Microsoft-hosted downloads.
Does Windows 10 have Hindi phonetic typing?
Yes. Windows 10 includes an Indic Phonetic keyboard. Add Hindi under Preferred languages, open Hindi’s Options page, and download Basic typing.
Is Hindi Indic Input 3 compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 10?
Third-party pages claim to offer separate 32-bit and 64-bit legacy packages, but those claims are not current Microsoft specifications. Microsoft’s supported Windows 10 method uses Language settings rather than a separate architecture-specific Hindi Indic Input installer.
Do I need Microsoft Office or Access for Hindi phonetic typing?
No. Office and Access requirements belong to legacy Hindi Indic Input documentation. They are not requirements for Windows 10’s built-in Indic Phonetic keyboard.

Why does the Hindi keyboard not work immediately after installation?
Basic typing or its phonetic dictionary may still be downloading through Windows Update. Keep the computer online, check Hindi under Language options, allow the download to finish, and then restart the application or Windows.
What is the shortcut for switching between English and Hindi?
Press Windows key + Space to cycle through installed input methods. You can also select the language indicator on the taskbar.
