Canon does not list a dedicated Windows 11 driver for the LBP2900B. Its latest applicable package is the 64-bit LBP2900/2900B CAPT Printer Driver R1.50 Ver.3.30, which Canon lists for Windows 10 x64 and earlier systems.
On many Windows 11 PCs, you can try Canon’s Setup.exe first; if that fails, use the classic Add Printer wizard to install the extracted INF file. Download the correct 64-bit package, keep USB disconnected during initial installation, and choose the printer’s USB virtual port.

Canon lists this package for Windows 10 (x64) and earlier supported operating systems, not Windows 11. Canon’s support page was last updated February 14, 2017, so installing it on Windows 11 is a compatibility workaround, not an officially listed Windows 11 installation.

Before installing
- Confirm that Windows is 64-bit. Open Settings → System → About and check System type.
- Turn on the LBP2900B, but disconnect its USB cable from the computer.
- If a previous installation left the printer unusable, remove the printer and its failed installation, then restart Windows.
Canon instructs users to install the driver before connecting the USB cable. Connecting the printer too early can leave Windows with an incomplete or incorrect printer entry.
Method 1: Try Canon’s normal Setup.exe installation
Try this first because it follows Canon’s package procedure.
- Download
LBP2900_R150_V330_W64_uk_EN_2.exefrom Canon. - Double-click the downloaded file to decompress the driver files into a new folder.
- Open the newly created folder.
- Double-click
Setup.exe. - Follow the prompts, keeping the USB cable disconnected until the installer reaches the stage that requests the connection.
- Connect the LBP2900B when prompted, then allow Windows and the Canon installer to complete setup.
If the printer installs and prints successfully, no manual installation is needed. If Setup.exe fails, Windows reports “Driver unavailable,” or the printer is not associated with a usable port, use the manual method below.
Method 2: Manually install the driver through Add Printer
This method uses the Canon INF file directly and is a Windows 11 workaround when the normal installer does not complete installation.

1. Extract the Canon package
- Double-click
LBP2900_R150_V330_W64_uk_EN_2.exe. - Open the extracted folder.
- Locate the 64-bit driver information file at
<extracted-folder>\x64\Driver\CNAB4STD.INF.
Select that INF file, not a similarly named file from another folder.
2. Open the classic printer wizard
- Press Win + R.
- Enter
controland press Enter. - In Control Panel, select Hardware and Sound → Devices and Printers.
- Select Add a printer.
- If the LBP2900B is not found, select The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings, then select Next.
3. Select the USB virtual printer port
- On Choose a printer port, select Use an existing port.
- Choose USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB).
- Select Next.
If USB001 is not available, connect the printer and allow Windows to detect it, then reopen the wizard. If Windows creates a different USB virtual port, select the port that corresponds to the printer.
4. Select the Canon INF file
- On Install the printer driver, select Have Disk…, then Browse….
- Open the extracted Canon driver folder and select
<extracted-folder>\x64\Driver\CNAB4STD.INF. - Select Open, then OK.
- When the model list appears, select Canon LBP2900/2900B (CAPT), then select Next.
- If Windows asks whether to replace an existing driver, select Replace the current driver, then select Next.
- Enter a printer name or keep the suggested name.
- Select Next, then Finish.
5. Connect and test the printer
- Connect the USB cable if it is still disconnected.
- Wait for Windows to finish configuring the printer.
- In Devices and Printers, right-click the new Canon printer and select Printer properties.
- On the General tab, select Print Test Page.
If the test page prints, the driver and printer association are working.

- Open Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Under Related settings, select Printer server properties.
- Open the Drivers tab and select Add….
- In Add Printer Driver Wizard, select Next >. Select Windows Update if the driver list needs refreshing.
- Choose the manufacturer and model, then select Finish.
This wizard only adds a driver to Windows; it does not install the printer itself. You must still add the LBP2900B through Windows printer setup and assign the correct port. For this older Canon model, selecting the extracted x64\Driver\CNAB4STD.INF with Have Disk… is usually the more direct procedure.

Important limitation for Windows on ARM
Some Windows 11 ARM computers, including certain Copilot+ PCs, may not install printers using a traditional manufacturer installer or manual driver installation. To check the processor type, open Settings → System → About and look under Device specifications → System type. An ARM system displays ARM based processor.
On an ARM PC, Microsoft’s recommended printer route is Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Add device. The Canon CAPT package may still be incompatible with the device, so a successful installation cannot be guaranteed.
What not to download
You do not need a third-party driver updater, registry file, or random “Windows 11 LBP2900B driver” package for this procedure. Canon’s official download is the self-extracting EXE named LBP2900_R150_V330_W64_uk_EN_2.exe. Using the official package reduces the risk of installing unrelated software or an altered driver.

Which port should I choose for the LBP2900B?
Start with USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB). If the printer is offline or does not print, open Printer properties → Ports and try USB002.
Why does the Add Printer Driver Wizard not create a printer?
Microsoft’s wizard only adds a driver to Windows. You must separately add the printer through Windows printer setup and select its port.
