Yes. The Xfinity Stream app can cast to selected Google Nest Hub smart displays and Chromecast-compatible receivers. Xfinity fully supports Chromecast with Google TV (4K and HD) and Chromecast Ultra; some older Chromecasts and Nest Hub models are eligible but may have lower video quality, more buffering, or reduced performance.

Which devices can cast Xfinity Stream?

Xfinity’s compatibility list separates fully supported devices from eligible ones. That distinction matters: a device can appear as a receiver yet still deliver less reliable playback.

Receiver Xfinity’s status What to expect
Chromecast with Google TV (4K or HD) Fully supported Xfinity identifies both versions as fully supported.
Chromecast Ultra Fully supported Xfinity identifies this model as fully supported.
Chromecast generations 1–3 Eligible Xfinity warns of possible lower performance or video quality, or more buffering.
Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) and selected Nest Hub Max models Eligible These are supported smart-display options, but Xfinity warns of possible performance or quality limits and buffering. Check the model-specific list in Xfinity’s Chromecast overview.
Smart TVs with Chromecast built in Compatibility varies Xfinity says support and performance vary by manufacturer; some TVs may show an unsupported-device message or stall before playback.

Being able to receive Google Cast does not guarantee that a device is an Xfinity Stream receiver. Xfinity’s named models—not just a general Cast capability—are the useful compatibility check. Google also explains how Cast-enabled apps work with compatible TVs and displays in its Cast media guide.

How to cast from the Xfinity Stream app

  1. Install and open the Xfinity Stream app, then sign in with your Xfinity ID.
  2. Connect your phone or tablet and the Chromecast or eligible display to the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. If prompted, allow the app to find devices on your local network. On iOS 14 or later, local-network permission may be needed for receiver discovery.
  4. Tap the Cast icon and choose the receiver. The icon becomes solid when the app is connected.
  5. Choose a live channel, On Demand program, or available recording to start playback.
  6. To end playback, open the Cast controls and stop casting.

Xfinity also supports casting from its web portal; look for the Cast control in the portal or player.

What you need for a reliable connection

  • Same Wi-Fi network: The phone or tablet and receiver must be on the same Wi-Fi network. A guest network or separate router network can prevent discovery.
  • Local-network permission: On iOS 14 or later, check the app’s local-network access if the receiver does not appear.
  • HDMI and HDCP for standalone Chromecasts: The Chromecast must be connected to a TV or monitor HDMI port that supports at least HDCP 1.3.
  • In-home network for full channel access: Xfinity says the full channel lineup and full On Demand library require the in-home Xfinity Internet network. Completed DVR recordings can stream over Wi-Fi or mobile networks.

Available programming depends on the subscriber’s service and account. Xfinity says eligible content includes live and On Demand programming, cloud DVR recordings, and purchases.

What to try if the display is missing or playback stalls

  • The receiver is not listed: Confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. On iOS 14 or later, confirm local-network permission is enabled for Xfinity Stream.
  • You see “This device is not supported”: The receiver may not be compatible with Xfinity Stream. If you have an older Chromecast, embedded TV receiver, or smart display, try a fully supported Chromecast model.
  • The app stays at “Ready to Cast” or loading: Xfinity says this can indicate an incompatible receiver. Use a model from its fully supported list to test.
  • A standalone Chromecast connects but video does not play: Check that the HDMI port on the connected TV or monitor supports HDCP 1.3 or higher.
  • Playback fails during simultaneous viewing: Check the account’s stream allowance. Xfinity lists up to five concurrent streams for Xfinity TV customers, with no more than three streams off the in-home Wi-Fi network; Xfinity Instant TV customers can stream on two devices at once.

Does casting cost extra or use your data allowance?

Xfinity says there is no charge for using a Chromecast device with Xfinity Stream. It also says casting on the in-home Wi-Fi network while signed in with an Xfinity account does not count against the Xfinity Internet Data Usage Plan. These statements concern Xfinity’s service and account conditions; they do not establish how a mobile carrier or a different internet provider counts data.
