Windows 10 includes security features that can support game-specific anti-cheat systems, but it does not provide a universal built-in cheat detector. Microsoft has described Windows platform integrity checks as useful in anti-cheat scenarios; game developers and anti-cheat providers still build and operate protections for individual games.

What Windows 10’s anti-cheat capabilities mean

Microsoft’s 2018 description of Windows Defender System Guard runtime attestation explicitly lists protected-game anti-cheat as a possible use. Its example is detecting process-protection bypasses that could enable game-state modification. That is a platform capability that can help a game’s security system observe certain threats, not evidence that Windows detects every cheat or independently enforces fair play in every title. Microsoft’s explanation of runtime attestation describes it as a Windows security technology built into the core operating system, using hardware-rooted protections and virtualization-based security.

Windows security and game anti-cheat are different layers

Layer What it does Who sets game-specific requirements
Windows platform security Features such as virtualization-based security (VBS), Secure Boot, TPM-backed measurements and memory integrity can help protect system integrity or provide security signals. Windows provides the features; whether a game relies on or requires them depends on that game.
Game-specific anti-cheat A game or its anti-cheat provider uses its own protections and may make use of Windows platform security. The game developer and its anti-cheat provider determine requirements and enforcement.

Microsoft’s December 2025 coverage of Windows on Arm names Easy Anti-Cheat, BattlEye, Denuvo and XIGNCODE3, describing Windows protections as strengthening anti-cheat providers. That discussion is specifically about native anti-cheat support for Windows on Arm; it is not a comparison of those providers’ effectiveness or a claim that they are built into Windows. What memory integrity does—and why compatibility matters

Memory integrity, also called Hypervisor-Protected Code Integrity (HVCI), is a Windows security feature that uses virtualization-based security to help protect the system. It is not itself a game-cheat detector. Microsoft says some applications and hardware drivers, including some anti-cheat solutions, may be incompatible with it. If a particular game or anti-cheat system has a compatibility problem, check for an update to that application and version before considering disabling memory integrity. Microsoft’s HVCI compatibility guidance provides details.

What players should check before changing settings

  1. Check the specific game’s requirements. Do not assume that a security setting required by one game applies to all Windows games.
  2. Check compatibility for the affected game and anti-cheat version. Microsoft recommends looking for an application update before disabling memory integrity to address a compatibility issue.
  3. Follow the game’s own instructions for firmware and Windows security settings. Xbox’s November 2025 guidance discusses security readiness for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, including checking firmware or BIOS settings and the game’s requirements. Those instructions are specific to that title, not a universal Windows gaming checklist. See Xbox’s fair-play security guidance.

What Windows’ security features do not establish

The cited Microsoft material does not establish that Windows 10 catches every cheating method, that runtime attestation guarantees fair play, or that any named anti-cheat provider is more effective than another. It also offers no detection-rate or cheat-prevalence statistics. The defensible conclusion is narrower: Windows security features can help create a more trusted environment and supply signals that game-specific anti-cheat systems may use.
