AMD lists the retail Ryzen 9 7950X3D with 128MB of L3 cache. A May 2024 report showed Windows Task Manager and CPU-Z displaying 192MB on a purported 7950X3D, but the reading was not verified with benchmarks. The sighting may reflect a software detection error; the available evidence does not establish that the processor had extra physical cache.
What AMD specifies for the retail 7950X3D
AMD’s product page lists the Ryzen 9 7950X3D with 128MB of L3 cache, 16 cores, 32 threads, boost speeds up to 5.7GHz, a default TDP of 120W, and an AM5 socket. AMD gives February 28, 2023 as the processor’s launch date. These are the specifications for the named retail model, not for a verified 192MB variant. AMD’s Ryzen 9 7950X3D specifications
Why a 192MB reading made news
Tom’s Hardware reported on May 4, 2024 that screenshots showed Windows Task Manager and CPU-Z reporting 192MB of L3 cache for a purported Ryzen 9 7950X3D. The report said the owner had not benchmarked the processor to test whether the extra 64MB was real. The screenshots therefore show what software reported, not independent verification of the chip’s physical cache. Tom’s Hardware’s report on the 192MB sighting
Could software have misread the cache?
Yes. HotHardware discussed a possible CPUID reporting error: software reading the wrong CPUID location could report 192MB on Ryzen 9 processors with 3D V-Cache. That makes a detection error a credible explanation, but it does not prove that this was the cause of the particular screenshots. HotHardware’s discussion of the possible CPUID error

A separate May 2024 report in the Memtest86+ project’s issue tracker describes another 7950X3D being incorrectly identified as having 192MB. The issue reporter said Windows showed 128MB total and CPU-Z showed 96MB plus 32MB. This is an individual report of a detection problem, not a formal test, but it demonstrates that a 192MB software reading can occur without establishing that the processor actually has that capacity. Is it a confirmed dual-V-Cache prototype?
No. The reports do not provide benchmarks or direct AMD confirmation establishing that the specific processor had 192MB of physical L3 cache. They also do not settle whether it was an engineering sample, a modified processor, or a software reporting error. Treat “192MB” as the reported display value, not as a confirmed specification for a prototype or production CPU.
