No. The MacBook Pro’s built-in display does not accept touch input. You can use trackpad gestures for common actions, run many iPhone and iPad apps on Apple silicon Macs when they’re offered for Mac, or use a separate iPad with Sidecar to interact with Mac content. None of those options turns the MacBook Pro’s own display into a touchscreen.
Can you use your finger on a MacBook Pro screen?
No: the display itself is not touch-enabled. Macworld’s May 12, 2025 report says that no Macs, including MacBook Pro, have touchscreens. Apple’s support pages describe model-specific specifications and trackpad input but do not explicitly make that negative statement, so check the technical specifications for your exact model if you are confirming a particular MacBook Pro. Touch input is not the same as trackpad input. The trackpad supports familiar gestures, but your fingers need to be on the trackpad rather than the display.

Can a MacBook Pro run iPhone or iPad apps?
Many iPhone and iPad apps are available from the Mac App Store on Macs with Apple silicon. Apple says those listings are marked “Designed for iPhone” or “Designed for iPad.” Availability and functionality depend on the app: developers can choose not to offer an app on Mac, and features that rely on device-specific hardware or complex Multi-Touch may not work as they do on an iPhone or iPad. A “Not verified for macOS” badge means full Mac compatibility has not been verified. By itself, it does not mean the app cannot run. Even when an app runs, its availability or touch-dependent features do not make the MacBook Pro display touch-sensitive.
Can an iPad act as a touchscreen for Mac content?
With Sidecar, a separate iPad can serve as a second display for a Mac; Macworld reports that users can touch Mac content shown on the iPad. The touch interaction happens on the iPad’s screen, not on the MacBook Pro panel. Macworld’s report on Mac and iPad touch options describes this approach, but it does not establish a current compatibility matrix for every Mac, iPad, and operating-system version. Check Apple’s current Sidecar requirements before relying on a particular device combination.

Is the Touch Bar a touchscreen?
No. On supported older MacBook Pro models, the Touch Bar is a narrow strip above the keyboard, not a touch-enabled laptop display. Its presence is model-dependent; it is not a feature of every MacBook Pro. Macworld discusses the distinction in its overview of MacBook touchscreens and the Touch Bar.

Macworld’s report reproduces historical comments from Apple executives, not current product specifications or a roadmap. In a 2016 interview, Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller said, “We think of the whole platform… If we were to do Multi-Touch on the screen of the notebook, that wouldn’t be enough–then the desktop wouldn’t work that way.” In a 2018 interview, Apple senior vice president of Software Engineering Craig Federighi said, “We really feel that the ergonomics of using a Mac are that your hands are rested on a surface, and that lifting your arm up to poke a screen is a pretty fatiguing thing to do…”
