No—not with literally every TV, soundbar, or smart-home device. A Fire TV Cube needs a free HDMI input on the TV, internet access, and an Amazon account for basic streaming. Soundbar audio and voice control depend on the specific TV and audio equipment, while Alexa smart-home features require compatible devices and may require a separate hub.
What the Fire TV Cube needs from your TV
Amazon’s setup guide requires a TV with an available HDMI input, a high-speed HDMI cable, internet access, and an Amazon account. Amazon says the HDMI cable is not included, so check whether you already have a suitable cable before setting up.
Connect the Cube to the TV’s HDMI input and select that input on the TV. This baseline connection lets you stream, but it does not guarantee every picture or audio feature you want: those depend on the exact TV and the ports and formats it supports. Check the TV’s model documentation and port labels before buying the Cube for a particular feature.
Amazon’s specifications for the Fire TV Cube (3rd Generation, 2022) list HDMI 2.1 input and HDMI 2.1 output with ARC. Those specifications describe that generation, not every Fire TV Cube generation. See Amazon’s Fire TV device specifications.

How to connect a soundbar or AV receiver
A common arrangement is to connect the Cube to a regular HDMI port on the TV, then connect the soundbar to the TV’s HDMI ARC or eARC port. The TV sends audio from the Cube to the soundbar over that connection. Follow the TV and soundbar manuals for the appropriate ports, then select the soundbar as the TV’s audio output and check the TV’s ARC and HDMI-CEC settings if audio or device control does not work. Amazon illustrates this connection in its Fire TV soundbar setup guide.
ARC/eARC behavior depends on the connected equipment and settings; having an HDMI port on both devices is not, by itself, proof that the desired audio path or control features will work. Confirm that the TV and soundbar support the connection you intend to use.

What Alexa can control on connected audio equipment
Fire TV equipment control can enable certain voice-controlled functions for configured soundbars and AV receivers. Amazon describes supported control after setup in Fire TV settings, but does not promise that every model or function is supported. Check the equipment-control options available for your devices rather than assuming Alexa can operate every soundbar feature. Amazon’s equipment setup guidance covers the relevant configuration.
Alexa Home Theater is a different audio setup
Alexa Home Theater routes audio through compatible Echo devices; it is not the same as sending TV audio to a soundbar. Amazon’s ARC Home Theater instructions require a compatible Fire TV and Echo combination and a TV with HDMI ARC. For that configuration, Amazon instructs users to disconnect the soundbar or AV receiver. Check the supported device combination and connection requirements in Amazon’s Alexa Home Theater setup instructions and compatibility information.

What to check before connecting smart-home devices
The Cube is not a universal smart-home hub. A device must be compatible with Alexa and set up for Alexa, and some devices require their own hub. Amazon lists third-party smart-home devices without a hub among the features unavailable on Fire TV Cube. Add compatible devices through the Alexa app and check the manufacturer’s instructions for any required hub or connection method. Amazon notes that most Wi-Fi smart-home devices work only on 2.4 GHz bands. See Amazon’s instructions for connecting smart-home devices to Alexa and Fire TV Cube Alexa feature information.
Do not assume that the Cube provides a built-in hub for every Zigbee, Matter, Wi-Fi, or other smart-home product. Support and hub requirements vary by device; verify the product’s Alexa compatibility and setup requirements.

Choose the audio path that matches your setup
| Audio option | What to check |
|---|---|
| TV speakers | A free HDMI input and the TV’s support for the picture and sound features you want. |
| Soundbar or AV receiver through the TV | Compatible TV and audio-device ports and settings for the intended ARC/eARC path; separately confirm which equipment-control functions are supported. |
| Alexa Home Theater with Echo devices | A compatible Fire TV/Echo combination and a TV with HDMI ARC. Amazon’s instructions say to disconnect a soundbar or receiver in this configuration. |
Set up the Cube and connected devices
- Confirm that the TV has a free HDMI input. Have a high-speed HDMI cable, Wi-Fi details, and an Amazon account ready.
- Connect the Cube to the TV’s HDMI input, then switch the TV to that input.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to connect to the internet and sign in. Set up equipment control during installation or later in Fire TV settings for supported connected equipment.
- If using a soundbar, connect it to the TV’s ARC/eARC port as directed by the device manuals, then select the TV’s sound output and check ARC/CEC settings.
- Add compatible smart-home devices through the Alexa app and confirm whether each device requires a separate hub.
Placement and accessories to plan for
Amazon recommends keeping the Cube about one foot away from speakers so it can hear voice commands, and says not to place it in a closed cabinet. If you need to control equipment inside a cabinet, Amazon says an IR extender can help; it is sold separately. Follow the placement and accessory guidance in Amazon’s Fire TV Cube setup guide.
