No. Steam Deck Verified means a game meets Valve’s compatibility checks, including a default-configuration target of 30 fps at 800p. It does not promise a locked frame rate in every scene, a particular player’s preferred level of smoothness, or long battery life. For a specific game, read the compatibility details and look for recent performance reports as well as checking its badge.
What Steam Deck Verified means
Valve’s compatibility review is intended to help players understand what to expect before launching a game on Steam Deck. The rating considers more than whether a game starts: it covers controls, text entry, interface legibility, launchers, supported resolution, frame rate, and compatibility with Proton and required middleware such as anti-cheat software. Valve’s Deck Verified overview and its Steamworks compatibility documentation describe the program and criteria.

Why Verified is not a performance guarantee
The 30 fps threshold is a minimum criterion
Valve’s Steamworks checklist says a game’s default configuration must produce a playable frame rate; for Steam Deck, the stated target is “30fps at 800p.” This is a default-configuration criterion, not a promise that every Verified game stays at 30 fps in every scene, or that it reaches 60 fps. It also does not set a player-specific standard for smoothness.
The badge does not rate every practical trade-off
Valve publishes separate technical recommendations intended to improve comfort, performance, and battery life, and says those recommendations do not affect the compatibility badge. So Verified alone does not tell you whether performance will feel consistently smooth to you, whether text and controls match your preferences, or how long the game will run unplugged. Those questions require game-specific evidence beyond the rating.

Compatibility can change over time
Valve says it reviews the catalog on an ongoing basis as games and features change. Its documentation also explains that it may automatically retest a game after Proton changes, when new tests are added, or when player or developer reports suggest earlier data was inaccurate or incomplete. Check the current compatibility details rather than treating a badge as a permanent result.
How to check whether a particular game will suit you
- Open the game’s Steam Store or Library page. Read the Deck compatibility details, not just the badge. Valve says details for reviewed titles are provided to help inform playing and purchasing decisions.
- Read any failed-criteria notes. For a Playable or Unsupported game, the Store details identify unmet requirements. Steamworks reports may show test results and specific Proton or middleware failures.
- Look for recent, game-specific performance reports. If frame rate or battery life matters, check reports tied to the game and Deck model you plan to use. Deck Verified Games is a community project with user-submitted settings, performance reports, compatibility notes, and estimated battery information. These reports are not Valve certification and cannot guarantee the same result on your device.
- Decide what “smooth” means for your use. Consider frame-rate stability, readable text, comfortable controls, setup required, and battery life. A game can meet Valve’s compatibility requirements and still fall short of an individual preference.
Do LCD and OLED models have different Verified ratings?
Valve Support’s current search-result text says the OLED target performance specification matches the LCD target and that titles reviewed through Deck Verified retain the same ratings on both models. That supports treating the compatibility rating as shared across LCD and OLED; it does not establish identical performance or battery life for every game on the two models.
