It is not established whether Pixel Search: Universal Search sends web-suggestion queries to Google. Its Google Play listing says the app uses Internet access for web suggestions and supports custom search engines, but it does not name the default suggestion provider or request endpoint. The developer says it does not collect personal information or store information on a server; those are developer statements, not an independent audit of network traffic.
First, which “Pixel Search” do you mean?
Pixel Search: Universal Search is a third-party Android app by Rushikesh Kamewar. It is not the same product as the search feature built into a Google Pixel phone. The app listing describes searches for apps, shortcuts, contacts, files, and web suggestions. Google describes its built-in Pixel search as finding content on the phone and web results. This distinction matters: local searches for items on your device are different from asking for web suggestions, which require network access. The answer below concerns the third-party app unless noted otherwise.
What is known about where the app sends searches?
The Play listing says, “Internet permission: Only used to get web suggestions,” and says the app “Supports custom installed search engines.” That establishes that its web-suggestion feature uses the Internet, but the listing does not identify the default provider or disclose the URL or endpoint that receives a query. The listing showed an app update dated February 14, 2026. That date does not reveal the destination or behavior of suggestion requests. The reviewed sources contain no authoritative technical statement identifying the app’s exact default suggestion endpoint.
What does the developer say about collection and storage?
Google Play’s Data safety section lists the developer’s declarations as “No data shared with third parties” and “No data collected.” The developer’s linked privacy policy says “NO PERSONAL INFORMATION is collected,” “No information is stored on the server,” and “App does not log any data.” The policy also says the app does not use cookies and that app information remains on the user’s device. These are the developer’s descriptions of its practices, not a verified account of every network request. The linked policy is effective June 16, 2023, which predates the listing’s February 2026 app update; it should not be treated as a technical description of every later version. Google Play also notes that Data safety information is provided by the developer and may change.
What happens if a query does reach Google?
Google’s privacy policy says Google may collect terms people search in its services along with technical information such as IP address, device and app details, and the request’s date, time, and referrer URL. Whether activity on Google services is saved in account history depends in part on the user’s settings. This describes Google’s practices when its services are used; it does not show that Pixel Search routes its suggestions to Google. (Google Privacy Policy)

How to interpret the HTTP claim in a Play review
A Google Play reviewer dated August 1, 2026 alleges that enabling Google search suggestions causes requests to use cleartext HTTP. That is an unverified user report, not a confirmed developer statement or an independently reproduced test. The report may depend on the app version or configuration, so it is not enough to conclude that the app currently sends queries without encryption. (Google Play listing)

Yes. Google’s built-in Pixel phone search is a Google feature, separate from the third-party Pixel Search app. Google says Pixel search can find content on the phone and web results, and users can control which apps appear in results. - Web suggestions involve network access: the app listing says Internet access is used for suggestions.
- The destination is not documented in the reviewed listing: it does not name the default provider or endpoint.
- The developer says it does not collect personal information or store data on a server: those statements are not an independent traffic audit, and the linked policy dates to June 16, 2023.
- Local searches and web suggestions are not the same: searching device content does not by itself establish that the query was sent to Google.
