Need for Speed: Carbon has not gained native DLSS 5 support on PlayStation 2. A report describes an unofficial experiment that ran the PS2 game in the PCSX2 emulator and applied neural-rendering post-processing to the emulator’s output using ReShade and RenoDX Generic.

What the DLSS 5 report describes

GameGPU’s October 5, 2026 report describes Need for Speed: Carbon running in PCSX2, with the emulator sending its output through Direct3D 11. ReShade and RenoDX Generic v6.5.3 then processed the completed frame at the emulator-output stage. The report says an early benchmark neural-rendering library handled frames in Multipass mode, using two passes at a working resolution of 2561×1425 pixels. Read the GameGPU report.

That is an emulation and post-processing setup, not a change to the PS2 game itself. The report does not describe a modified PS2 executable, a feature running on PS2 hardware, or an official integration from the game’s publisher or NVIDIA.

What visual changes were claimed

GameGPU says the demonstrator used night races and the garage to show the effect. The article claims that car paint, headlight reflections, and asphalt textures were reconstructed without changing the original image files, and that the treatment reduced low-resolution artifacts and added volumetric shading to 2D geometric elements.

#1 Best Overall

Those are observations reported by one secondary source, not independently measured results. The report does not provide a complete configuration that readers can reproduce, a controlled comparison, or independent confirmation of the visual changes.

What this means for PCSX2 users

It is not a ready-to-follow installation guide

The report names PCSX2, Direct3D 11, ReShade, and RenoDX Generic v6.5.3, but it does not provide a full settings list, a verified download source, or enough procedural detail to reliably reproduce the demonstration. It also gives no controlled performance results or evidence that the same output will work on other hardware. Treat it as a reported experiment, not a tested setup recipe.

Official availability is not established here

GameGPU also says official DLSS 5 availability was limited to GeForce RTX 50-series cards and NBA 2K27, describing other uses as unofficial. That compatibility statement is the report’s claim; the report alone does not establish it as current, definitive NVIDIA guidance. In any case, it does not make this Carbon demonstration an official game feature or show that an RTX 50-series card is required for this particular experiment.

Bottom line for the PS2 version

The report is about an enthusiast processing PCSX2’s completed image with external tools. It does not show DLSS 5 running in the PS2 game or on a PlayStation 2 console. Its claimed visual changes remain unverified beyond the single report, and the published details are insufficient to promise that another user can reproduce them.
