Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →No—not for ordinary Discord use. Discord said in February 2026 that it would not require everyone to scan their face or upload an ID. Most users are assigned an age group automatically; people who want access to age-restricted content, spaces, or settings may need to confirm they are adults if Discord has not already classified them that way. The planned global rollout was delayed to the second half of 2026, and Discord has not announced an exact launch date.
What Discord’s age-assurance policy means for users
Discord’s February 2026 update said that over 90% of users would continue using the service as before, with age determined automatically and no extra action required. That figure is Discord’s estimate, not an independently measured result. Discord also stated that it is not requiring everyone to complete a face scan or upload an ID to use Discord. Discord’s February 2026 safety update explains the broader teen-safety changes.
Age confirmation is generally relevant when a user wants to access age-restricted content or spaces, or change certain settings, and Discord has not already placed the account in the adult age group. Discord says messaging friends, joining voice calls, and using servers that are not age-restricted remain available without adult confirmation. Discord’s current age-confirmation guide describes the account process.
When the global rollout is expected
Discord announced teen-by-default settings and a planned global expansion of age assurance in February 2026, then delayed the broader rollout to the second half of 2026. The company cited work to expand confirmation options, improve vendor transparency, and publish technical documentation. Its February update said it would continue addressing regulatory requirements where needed.

Discord’s Australia support page, updated in August 2026, says the global rollout is planned for the second half of the year. It does not give a specific date. Australia has had a regional experience for new and existing users beginning December 9, 2025; that regional implementation is not proof that every feature or confirmation method applies worldwide. Discord’s Australia guidance lists local examples, including access to 18+ channels and servers, unblurring sensitive content, speaking in a Stage channel, and changing certain settings such as Message Requests or age-restricted commands.
Which age-confirmation methods Discord documents
Discord says most accounts are assigned an age group using information already available to the service. If it cannot confidently classify an account, the account may remain unclassified; a user seeking age-restricted access can then choose from the methods presented. The menu can differ by region, device, and prior attempts, and Discord may request a second method if it needs more confidence.

| Method | What it involves | What Discord says it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Apple App Store age range | Sharing an age range through Apple. | An age range, not an exact birthdate. |
| Google Play age range | Sharing an age range through Google. | An age range, not an exact birthdate. |
| Credit-card check | A vendor-mediated check. Discord says a temporary charge of less than US$0.50 may be placed and refunded within 14 business days if charged. | Not specified in the support guide; method availability varies. |
| Video selfie | A short clip or image is analyzed for facial age estimation. | Discord says the estimation happens on-device and the selfie is not shared with Discord or k-ID. |
| ID scan | A government-issued ID photo is scanned, with a selfie used to confirm it matches. | Discord says the ID and matching selfie are deleted immediately after confirmation and that Discord receives an age signal. |
| AgeKey | A reusable age passkey created through an age-confirmation process. | Discord describes it as reusable across participating services; availability depends on the method menu offered to the user. |
These method descriptions come from Discord’s support guide and its September 2026 overview of age-assurance vendors, methods, and data. They do not establish that each option is available to every user or that one is safer than the others.
What Discord says about privacy—and what is not independently established
Discord says facial age estimation takes place entirely on the user’s device. For ID checks, Discord says the ID and matching selfie are deleted immediately after confirmation, and the company receives an age signal rather than the identity documents. Discord describes k-ID as an orchestrator for methods including credit-card checks, facial age estimation, ID scans with selfies, and AgeKeys. These are the company’s descriptions of its process; the cited materials do not provide an independent audit or a numeric accuracy rate for the model. Discord says uncertain accounts can remain unclassified. Its Safety News hub provides updates on the model and regional context.
