Yes. Brick works with Android phones running Android 12.0 or later, provided the phone has NFC and NFC is turned on. Brick does not publish a complete model-by-model compatibility list, so its named Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones are examples for locating the NFC reader—not a full list of certified devices.
What an Android phone needs to use Brick
Brick is a physical NFC device that works with the Brick app: you tap the phone on the Brick to activate a selected blocking mode. To use it on Android, you need:
- Android 12.0 or later. This is the minimum version listed in Brick’s compatibility FAQ.
- NFC hardware with NFC enabled. Check your phone’s settings before setup and scanning. Brick’s terms and Android setup guide describe NFC as a requirement.
- The Brick app and required permissions. Install the app from Google Play. During Android setup, Brick asks users to grant Accessibility, alarms and reminders, and notification access permissions. Its terms also describe account creation.
Which Android phones does Brick support?
Brick’s public compatibility information sets requirements by Android version and NFC capability rather than offering a complete supported-phone whitelist. It also says compatibility is not guaranteed for every device. A phone that meets the stated requirements may still differ in NFC placement or scanning behavior.
Brick’s troubleshooting guide names these phone families as examples when showing where to find the NFC antenna:

- Samsung Galaxy: S21, S22, S23, S23 FE, S24, and S25 standard models, as well as Galaxy Ultra models.
- Google Pixel: Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8.
For these examples, Brick says the NFC reader is usually near the top-center of the phone’s back, around or below the camera area. The examples are for antenna-location troubleshooting, not confirmation that every model or variant is supported. See Brick’s “Brick won’t scan” guide for its device illustrations and advice.
Android blocking limits and modes
Brick says its Android app can block apps except Phone and Launcher. You can create up to ten custom modes, according to the Brick FAQ. The blocking exception and custom-mode limit are specific to Brick’s stated Android behavior; they do not change the phone’s NFC or Android-version requirements.

What to try if Brick will not scan
Work through Brick’s troubleshooting steps in order. The exact scan experience can vary by phone, so these are checks rather than guarantees for every Android model.
- Check the app’s state. Open Brick and confirm it shows “Ready to Scan” before trying to Brick or Unbrick.
- Confirm NFC is on. Turn on NFC in your phone’s settings if it is disabled.
- Update and restart. Check Google Play for a Brick app update, install it if available, then restart the phone.
- Find the NFC antenna location. Check your phone’s settings or manufacturer guidance; Brick’s scan guide includes examples for certain Galaxy and Pixel families.
- Adjust the scan setup. Remove a thick case, hover the phone over the Brick instead of tapping directly, try the Brick’s thin side, or move it off a fridge.
Before you rely on a model-specific answer
If your phone runs Android 12.0 or later and includes NFC, it meets Brick’s published baseline criteria. Because Brick does not provide an exhaustive compatibility list and does not guarantee every device, confirm the NFC feature is available on your particular phone and use Brick’s current support guidance if scanning fails.
