What Bell announced—and where its rollout is
On March 5, 2026, Bell announced 5G+ Advanced, powered by a new 5G standalone core and its latest spectrum deployment. Bell says the network can deliver theoretical peak download speeds of up to 4.3 Gbps, along with greater capacity and lower latency. That figure describes a theoretical network peak, not a measured smartwatch speed or a watch-specific result. Bell’s announcement focused on compatible mobile devices; it did not announce a 5G smartwatch service launch. Bell’s March 5 announcement.
Bell’s live network page says the 5G+ Advanced rollout is underway in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Niagara and other locations. Availability depends on location and compatible devices with current software, so check Bell’s network and coverage information by address before relying on service in a particular place.
Why Bell’s watch marketing does not settle the 5G question
Bell’s network page uses the heading “Watches that unlock the power of Bell 5G” and displays Apple Watch models. Its support instructions, however, specify LTE service for smartwatch connections: Bell says cellular Apple Watch connects to Bell Mobility LTE through NumberShare or an Apple Watch standalone plan, while its Samsung guide says LTE-capable Galaxy Watches connect to Bell Mobility LTE through NumberShare. The distinction matters: a watch can be described as compatible with a carrier’s 5G network without the carrier’s documentation establishing that the watch itself uses 5G radio access. Bell’s pages do not resolve whether the watches it markets connect through 5G on its smartwatch plans. Treat “Bell launched 5G for smartwatches” as unconfirmed unless Bell directly verifies the watch network technology for the specific model and plan.
What you need to activate a Bell cellular smartwatch
Cellular hardware alone is not enough. Check the watch’s exact model, carrier-plan eligibility, companion phone requirements and coverage before buying or activating.

Apple Watch
- Choose an eligible Apple Watch model with cellular connectivity; a GPS-only model does not provide the cellular watch connection described by Bell.
- Bell documents NumberShare, which lets the watch share the iPhone’s number and stay connected when away from the phone, as well as a standalone plan with a dedicated number for eligible Apple Watch models.
- The cellular Apple Watch uses eSIM. Review Bell’s Apple Watch requirements and setup details for current device and account eligibility.
Samsung Galaxy Watch
- Bell’s documented path requires an LTE-capable Galaxy Watch with eSIM, a Bell postpaid data plan, a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, current software and a MyBell profile.
- Bell notes that the paired phone must be turned on for the watch to receive text messages and email. Calls can still be made and received when the phone is off or out of battery.
- Check Bell’s Samsung smartwatch setup and eligibility information for the current requirements.
Coverage, roaming and using the watch away from your phone
Bell says the documented Apple and Samsung cellular-watch connections work in Canada where VoLTE coverage is available. International roaming is currently unavailable on these documented smartwatch paths. Outside VoLTE coverage, Bell says the watch can connect to the phone over Bluetooth; that is different from independent cellular service away from the phone. Check the relevant Apple or Samsung support page for the terms that apply to your model and plan.

If 5G connectivity on your wrist is the deciding factor, ask Bell to confirm the specific watch model and plan—not just whether the watch is listed as compatible with Bell 5G. Confirm whether its cellular connection uses 5G radio access or LTE/VoLTE, and verify plan eligibility and address-level coverage. Bell’s public setup documentation reviewed here describes LTE/VoLTE rather than confirming 5G smartwatch service.
