No. An Xbox-compatible racing wheel does not necessarily work with every racing game. Support depends on the exact wheel model and game, and may also depend on the Xbox generation, a wheel compatibility mode, or in-game setup. Before buying or troubleshooting, check the wheel maker’s current compatibility list for your exact model and console, then read the game’s setup notes.
Why Xbox wheel compatibility varies
Xbox licensing alone is not a guarantee of support in every game. Manufacturers publish game lists for specific wheel models, and those lists can distinguish between Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. For example, Thrustmaster describes the T248 as officially licensed for both console families but directs owners to its support site for the compatible games and says the lists are regularly updated (Thrustmaster T248 product page; T248 support page).
Console-generation claims are also model-specific. Thrustmaster says the TMX works on Xbox Series X|S with the Xbox One games listed as compatible for that wheel. Do not assume the same cross-generation behavior for another model without checking its own support documentation (TMX support page).
Compatibility can mean more than connecting the wheel
A game may recognize a wheel but still need setup or have feature limitations. Thrustmaster’s T248 compatibility list gives examples: GRID Legends may require manual axis and button configuration; NASCAR 21: Ignition requires the official gamepad to be on alongside the wheel; and Bus Simulator 18 has no force feedback with that wheel. These are specific notes for the T248, not universal rules for those games or other wheels (T248 compatibility list).

When checking a listing, look beyond the game title. Confirm whether force feedback works, whether the buttons and pedals behave as expected, and whether setup instructions require manual mapping or a gamepad to remain connected and powered on.
Some wheels require a particular compatibility mode
Mode requirements can vary by wheel. For the T598, Thrustmaster documents Native and Legacy modes and states that F1 23, F1 24, and F1 25 work only in Legacy mode. The manufacturer recommends trying Legacy mode if an Xbox game has compatibility or functionality issues. This guidance applies to the T598; it should not be assumed to apply to every wheel (T598 Xbox compatibility information).

How to check whether your wheel works with a game
- Identify the exact hardware. Note the wheel model and whether the console is Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.
- Open the manufacturer’s support page for that model. Find its Xbox game compatibility list; do not use a list for a different wheel.
- Search for the exact game title. Read the full entry, including footnotes and setup notes, rather than relying only on the game appearing in a list.
- Check feature and setup requirements. Look for a required wheel mode, manual axis or button mapping, force-feedback limitations, or a requirement to keep the gamepad on.
- Confirm uncertain cases with the manufacturer or publisher. If the game is absent from the list, absence is not proof of incompatibility, but it is not confirmation of support either.
Compatibility lists can change. Recheck the current model-specific list before purchasing or troubleshooting, especially when relying on a particular game or feature.

- Whether each game appears on each wheel’s own compatibility list.
- Whether support covers Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or both.
- Whether a particular game requires a compatibility mode.
- Whether force feedback and essential controls are supported.
- Whether setup requires manual mapping or an additional controller.
These checks help distinguish basic recognition from usable, fully configured support. The available manufacturer examples show that the details can differ even among games listed for one wheel.
