How outfits and armor affect gameplay
PlayStation’s Ghost of Yōtei builds guide, published October 15, 2025, describes combining armor and outfit features with the boons offered by charms. Armor perks vary by set, so the useful question is which approach a set supports—not whether one set is best for every encounter.

The guide says three saved builds are available at the start, with up to five eventually savable. That lets you prepare different combinations for different playstyles.

How charms and upgrades fit into a build
Charms are separate equipment bonuses that can be paired with armor perks. Choose a combination around the way you prefer to play; for example, a stealth-focused setup can prioritize avoiding detection and assassination, while a duel-focused setup can emphasize parries and counterattacks.
PlayStation says armor sets and many charms can be upgraded several levels, increasing their special effects. The guide recommends taking chosen items to their top level to strengthen a build. It does not give one universal upgrade order, so prioritize the gear and bonuses that support your preferred approach.

Does changing appearance alone change stats?
The official guide establishes that armor and outfit sets have gameplay effects, but it does not explain whether a purely visual appearance change—separate from the equipped armor—preserves the armor’s stats. Treat the perks as tied to the functional gear described in the guide; do not assume every cosmetic clothing choice has its own stat effect.

Gear balance may change in later patches. Sucker Punch’s 1.010 patch notes, dated October 17, 2025, mention an armor-upgrade scene bug but do not document changes to armor perks. The PlayStation examples above reflect its October 15, 2025 guide.
