Yes—some Nintendo Switch platformers support local multiplayer on one console, and the Nintendo-listed examples below allow up to four players. Support is game-specific, so check a title’s single-system player count and controller requirements before buying.
What local multiplayer means on Nintendo Switch
Here, local multiplayer means playing together on the same Switch console. It is different from online play and local wireless play, which Nintendo treats as separate arrangements in its Super Mario Bros. Wonder support instructions. Local wireless involves multiple consoles, so make sure the game supports the setup your group intends to use.
Which Switch platformers have same-console multiplayer?
Nintendo confirms same-system multiplayer for these three platform games. The listed player counts do not establish that every Switch platformer offers local play.

Can you play Switch platformers with two players?
Yes, in a game whose listing supports two or more players on one system. The examples above all support more than one player, but check the specific title’s player count rather than assuming local multiplayer is standard across the platformer genre.

How many players can play Super Mario Bros. Wonder on one Switch?
Nintendo lists local play for up to four players on one system. Its guidance separates this from online play and local wireless play; see Nintendo’s play-mode instructions if you need to distinguish those arrangements.
Do you need extra Joy-Cons for local multiplayer?
It depends on the game and how many compatible controllers your group already has. Nintendo says one Joy-Con is enough for one player in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, while also cautioning that additional accessories may be required for multiplayer. That warning is specific to the title and should not be generalized to every Switch game.

- Review the listing’s controller guidance and confirm any required accessories are compatible and included—or budget for what is missing.
