Fido’s live plans page advertises plan-only Talk & Text plans starting at $25 per month after its Automatic Payments Discount. It offers phone financing separately and says a $40 Device Setup Charge may apply. Why “worse value” is not established
To show that a new offer is worse, it must be compared with the previous offer on equivalent terms. The official information available here does not give dated prior and current plan details, so it does not support a calculation of price per gigabyte or a conclusion that Fido has reduced value.

A useful comparison needs the old and new plan names and prices, data allowances, and any bonus data, plus the terms that affect the actual cost and use. Compare the same customer type and geography, and distinguish recurring discounts from temporary credits. Fido’s live plan page does not show a dated history of its lineup, so a customer’s prior offer or a dated record of its terms is necessary for a firm comparison.
How to compare two Fido offers fairly
Before deciding that one plan is a better deal, line up these terms for both offers:

- Recurring service price: Compare the monthly plan charge after recurring discounts, including whether the advertised price depends on Automatic Payments. Keep taxes, device payments, one-time charges, and optional add-ons separate.
- Data: Record the included high-speed data, any bonus allowance, and what happens after it is used. Fido says Data Overage Protection pauses access after the included data is exhausted unless the customer chooses to buy more data. Fido’s add-ons page
- Coverage and roaming: Check whether the offer covers Canada only or includes other countries, and confirm calling, texting, and data terms for each destination.
- Hotspot: Confirm whether mobile-hotspot access is included or costs extra. Fido’s add-ons page lists hotspot access for $5 per month. Fido’s add-ons page
- Eligibility and duration: Note whether the offer is limited to particular customers and whether a discount or bonus expires. A temporary credit should not be treated as the plan’s permanent monthly price.
- Phone financing: Separate the service-plan price from device payments and check the financing terms before changing service.
Fido’s add-ons page also lists travel passes starting at $25 for three days and device protection starting at $9.99 per month. Fido’s overview describes travel passes starting at $3 per day and says they are available in over 180 destinations. As of October 4, 2026, the CRTC’s prohibition on extra fees to activate, change, or cancel cellphone and Internet plans is in effect. The regulator announced the change on March 12, 2026, and Telecom Regulatory Policy 2026-43 set June 12, 2026 as its effective date. The policy includes exceptions, such as reasonable physical-installation fees and additional products or services explicitly chosen by the customer; it does not mean every charge associated with a service or device is prohibited. CRTC Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Vicky Eatrides said the decision removes extra fees to activate, change, or cancel a plan so consumers can switch without paying extra just to get the service that works best for them. What a customer should verify before switching
- Save the full details of both offers, including plan name, monthly price, data, and eligibility terms.
- Check whether each price assumes Automatic Payments, includes a temporary credit, or excludes taxes and add-ons.
- Compare coverage, roaming, hotspot access, and what happens when included data runs out.
- Separate service charges from phone financing, optional services, and any applicable one-time charges.
- Confirm the current terms and checkout price with Fido before making a decision, since its live offers can change.
