For exploring Hajin, a squad is the safer default if your route could lead to combat; solo play is a better fit if you want to move at your own pace and accept more risk. That is a tactical judgment based on the activities and threats described in the official guides—not a measured ranking. Call of Duty has not published comparative survival, objective-completion, or extraction results by party size.

Is Hajin easier solo or in a squad?

DMZ is an extraction experience set in the Hajin Exclusion Zone, where operators explore, pursue objectives, and encounter other players. The official overview supports both solo and squad deployments, but does not establish that either party size performs better overall. Call of Duty’s June 6, 2026 overview describes the setting and deployment options without giving comparative outcome data.

A squad offers backup if contact occurs, which makes it the more cautious choice for an outing that may involve danger. Solo can make movement and decisions more self-directed, but you have no teammates to rely on. Those are practical trade-offs, not guarantees about game balance or success rates.

Which activities suit a solo explorer?

Start with Side Ops

For a lower-intensity first look at Hajin, consider Side Ops. The official guide presents these as opportunities to explore, earn DMZ XP, find resources, and uncover intel. Examples include recovering lost Supply Drops, repairing trucks, and climbing radio towers to reveal a Lieutenant’s general location. Side Ops are not limited to solo players, and “lower-intensity” does not mean risk-free: other operators or unexpected encounters can still disrupt a plan.

The October 2026 Hajin guide also advises checking mission requirements before deployment and choosing an Operator, gear, and route that fit the intended activity. Use that advice to make a plan, not as a promise that equipment removes the risks of going alone.

Be cautious with Hunt Operators

Hunt Operators is a Dynamic Op that calls for facing a full squad of rival Operators. That is a clear high-risk commitment for a solo explorer. If your aim is to learn the map or complete a quieter task, choose a different activity; if you deliberately take the Hunt, prepare for the squad-level threat described in the guide.

How to choose your playstyle

What matters most Solo Squad
Control over pace More self-directed movement, with no teammate coordination needed. Routes and objectives can be coordinated, but the group must make decisions together.
Support during contact No teammate backup; a full rival squad is a particularly serious threat. Teammates can provide support, though the official sources do not quantify its effect.
Lower-intensity exploration Side Ops are a reasonable option; they can still bring unexpected danger. Side Ops can also suit a squad; the guide does not restrict them by party size.
Published performance comparison No verified comparative rate or outcome is stated in the official sources. No verified comparative rate or outcome is stated in the official sources.

Choose solo if you value self-directed movement and are comfortable with uncertainty. Choose a squad if you want shared coverage and backup, especially when your planned activity may draw you into combat. Neither choice is established as universally best.

Plan your Hajin deployment

  1. Check your Orders and task requirements. Know what the activity asks you to do before deploying.
  2. Pick an activity that matches your risk tolerance. Side Ops are described as lower-intensity; Hunt Operators specifically involves a full rival squad.
  3. Choose your Operator, gear, and route for the task. Treat preparation as planning, not protection against every encounter.
  4. Decide whether you want teammates. Go solo for a more self-directed outing, or bring a squad if shared coverage matters more than independent movement.

What the official sources establish

The official overview describes DMZ’s Hajin setting and solo and squad deployments. The October 2026 guide adds concrete Side Ops and the Hunt Operators threat. A June 2026 Xbox Wire interview discusses design intent around solo play, but design discussion is not evidence of comparative balance or outcomes. None of these sources provides a verified statistic showing which party size survives, completes objectives, or extracts more often.
