Yes, you can play Modern Warfare 4 DMZ alone. Turn Squad Fill off at the FOB, enter Hajin Exclusion Zone with a basic plate carrier, Backpack, weapon and medkit, complete one manageable objective, and extract before extra loot or an unnecessary fight turns the run into a loss. Your first deployment is an information-and-extraction exercise, not a test of how much combat you can force.
Version note: This guide covers the current Modern Warfare 4 DMZ implementation in Hajin Exclusion Zone. It is not a guide to the older Warzone 2.0 DMZ version in Al Mazrah. Maps, missions, progression and recovery rules differ, so older route guides and gear advice may not apply.
What does DMZ ask a solo player to do?
DMZ is an extraction shooter built around a loop: infiltrate an open world, collect useful items, complete objectives, survive AI and rival Operators, then leave with your rewards. The loot and combat matter because they support the attempt to extract; staying in the deployment is not the win condition.
Solo play removes allied revives, shared information and crossfire. That changes the correct strategy. A solo run should reduce the number of decisions made under pressure: take one objective, use a known route, keep a fallback extraction in mind and leave while the run is still under control. A successful first deployment is better measured by returning with your operator and useful progress than by filling every Backpack slot.

What should I do before deploying?
Spend a minute at the FOB so the deployment has a purpose. The current FOB includes persistent inventory management, loadout preparation, weapon purchasing, crafting and progression systems, and the base can develop through more than a dozen Stations. Use it to prepare deliberately rather than carrying your entire stash into a learning run.
- Check the Active Duty Operator: know which operator and continuity you are risking.
- Read the current Order or Mission: select one objective that can reasonably be completed in a single deployment.
- Review the Backpack: remove valuable items you do not need for this attempt.
- Confirm the extraction plan: identify a likely exit and one alternative on the Tac Map.
- Set a stop condition: for example, extract immediately after the chosen objective and one safe loot sweep.
The current progression track runs through Level 70, but your first run does not need to chase long-term milestones. Early progress comes from repeating controlled deployments and learning which risks are avoidable.
How do I configure DMZ for solo play?
At the deployment screen, inspect the Squad Fill setting and switch it off before you launch. The documented setting says that enabling Squad Fill automatically places you with two allied players; disabling it is therefore the practical way to enter without assigned teammates. Verify the toggle each time, because a changed setting can alter the entire risk profile of the deployment.
- Open the deployment preparation screen from the FOB.
- Select the Active Duty Operator you intend to use.
- Set Squad Fill to Off.
- Choose the current Order or Mission and read its location and conditions.
- Equip a basic, recoverable loadout rather than your rarest equipment.
- Launch only after you can state your first destination and intended extraction.
If you actually want two allied players, leave Squad Fill enabled. That is a different playstyle, with more opportunities for revives and shared fights, but it is not the solo configuration covered here.
What is the safest first-deployment loadout?
Use the official essential categories—plate carrier, Backpack, weapon and medkit—as the baseline. Choose equipment whose loss will not end your next attempt. A first run is for learning Hajin’s sightlines, AI behavior, points of interest and extraction approaches, so rare weapons and a full collection of valuable items create more downside than benefit.
| Slot or resource | First-run priority | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Plate carrier | Reliable basic protection | Lets you survive a mistake without making the run dependent on rare gear. |
| Backpack | Enough capacity for the objective and survival items | Every slot should support progression, survival or the planned exit. |
| Weapon | Familiar, replaceable weapon | Comfort and recoverability are more useful than status or scarcity. |
| Medkit | Always carry one | Medical supplies give you the option to disengage and recover after contact. |
Do not treat the first deployment as a gear test. If an item is difficult to replace and does not directly help the selected objective, leave it in the Stash. The psychological benefit of a low-stakes kit is important: you are less likely to take a bad fight to “save” an expensive loadout.
What should I do in the first minute after infil?
Your opening priority is information, not maximum loot. Move to cover, check the Tac Map and identify the nearest useful point of interest. From cover, determine whether the objective is reachable without crossing an exposed route or entering a high-threat area.

- Break line of sight: move away from the immediate infil area instead of standing in the open.
- Orient yourself: compare your position with the objective, likely extraction and a fallback route.
- Listen and observe: nearby AI activity and distant combat can reveal whether a route is already contested.
- Choose one task: do not begin several missions because they happen to be nearby.
- Leave containers alone: skip low-value rooms when opening them would expose you or delay the route.
The first decision should answer, “Does this move improve my chance of completing the objective and extracting?” If the answer is no, rotate toward cover or a safer approach.
How should a solo player move through Hajin?
Move between cover and use the map to maintain options. A solo player cannot rely on an ally to watch a second angle, so avoid routes that leave you trapped in a courtyard, hallway or dead end with no alternative exit. Keep enough distance from obvious activity to observe before committing.
Plan the return route before reaching the objective. Note buildings, terrain or other landmarks that can provide concealment on the way out. If the objective is inside a busy point of interest, identify a quieter approach and a direction in which you can disengage. A route that is slightly longer but offers cover is usually preferable to a direct line through repeated exposure.
Do not spend the opening minutes opening every container. The official DMZ loop rewards completing tasks and escaping with what you can protect, not touching every loot source. Search only when the item can improve survival, unlock the current objective or justify the time and exposure.

Fight only when combat advances the mission, protects an essential route or secures survival resources. AI and rival Operators are both part of the threat environment, but neither needs to be eliminated simply because they are present.
Before firing, ask three questions:
- What do I gain? Does the fight open the objective, provide a required item or secure the extraction path?
- Where can I disengage? Is there cover and a route away if more enemies arrive?
- What will it cost? Consider health, medical supplies, ammunition, time and the noise that may attract another player.
If the answers are unclear, break contact. Rotate rather than repeatedly re-peeking the same angle. A rival Operator who is not blocking your objective is often a problem you can solve by changing direction. Against AI, avoid turning a small patrol into a prolonged engagement that leaves you exposed to other threats.
Solo pressure is highest when a fight consumes the resources needed for extraction. A technically won encounter can still be a strategic loss if it leaves you injured, loud and far from the exit.

How do I choose a first objective?
Pick one objective with a clear location, a short chain of actions and a route that does not require deep exploration. The objective should be achievable even if you abandon optional loot. If a mission has several stages, complete only the part that is realistic for the current run and return later for the rest.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Use this risk filter before committing:
- Low risk: the objective is near your starting area, has multiple approaches and does not require a prolonged fight.
- Moderate risk: it requires crossing a contested area or carrying an item for some distance, but a fallback route exists.
- High risk: it demands deep travel, repeated combat or a narrow extraction window. Save this for a later run with better map knowledge.
Completing one modest objective and extracting teaches more than failing three ambitious objectives while overloaded. Once you know the route and timing, you can combine objectives in future deployments.
How should I manage the Backpack?
Use the Backpack as a decision system, not a trophy case. Prioritize items that complete the current objective, keep you alive or directly support the planned extraction. Leave space for a required mission item instead of filling every slot with uncertain valuables.
The current official guidance warns that successful deployments can quickly fill the Backpack and recommends offloading loot into the Stash after extraction. That makes sorting part of the loop:
- At infil: reserve capacity for objective items and survival supplies.
- During the run: discard low-value items when a more relevant item appears.
- Before extraction: stop looting once the objective is complete unless the next item is clearly worth the exposure.
- At the FOB: move useful rewards into the Stash, prepare the next loadout and remove items that would make the next run unnecessarily expensive.
If you cannot explain why an item belongs in the Backpack, it is probably not helping this deployment. A lighter, purposeful inventory also makes retreat decisions faster.

Extract as soon as the selected objective is complete and the run contains enough value to justify returning. Current Hajin material describes multiple extraction options, including helicopters and skyhooks. The exact choice can change with your position and current threats, so keep a fallback rather than assuming the nearest exit will remain safe.
Begin the return route early. Allow time for a detour, a blocked approach, enemy contact or the need to heal before reaching the extraction point. Waiting for the final possible extraction to improve the loot screen is a classic solo mistake: one late fight can erase the entire run.

- Transfer Files in Seconds: Transfer files and from your laptop at speeds up to 10 Gbps with USB A 3.2 port. Extra 2 USB A 2.0 ports are perfectly for your keyboards and mouse.
Use this simple extraction trigger:
- Objective complete + safe route: leave now.
- Objective complete + damaged or low on medical supplies: leave using the safest available route, even if the loot is modest.
- Objective incomplete + route compromised: abandon or defer the objective and reposition toward extraction.
- Extra loot only: take it only if it lies directly on a safe route and cannot delay the exit.
Extraction protects the value already earned. The official current guide explicitly notes that not every deployment ends successfully; choosing an early exit is how a solo player keeps the odds under control.
What happens if I go down or fail to exfil?
Current Modern Warfare 4 DMZ includes recovery mechanics that differ from legacy DMZ. A Tourniquet can restore a downed Operator to a wounded state, and the MIA system can use FOB resources to recover lost Operators. These systems give a failed deployment a possible recovery path, but they do not make reckless play free.

Current guidance also says that DMZ XP earned during the deployment still counts even when the player fails to exfil. If a run is already collapsing, safely completing a small objective or gathering route information may still produce progress. Do not turn that fact into permission for a pointless final push: surviving preserves operator continuity, equipment and the rewards in your Backpack.
After a loss, write down the cause in one sentence: exposed approach, unnecessary fight, late extraction, overloaded inventory or an unfamiliar route. Correct that one issue on the next deployment instead of escalating the loadout or attempting a harder mission.
How is current Hajin DMZ different from legacy Al Mazrah DMZ?
The distinction matters because many search results still describe the older Warzone 2.0 implementation. Legacy material covers Al Mazrah, marked exfil locations and a final exfil, and describes a harsher single-life structure in which nonpermanent Backpack items were lost on death. Current Hajin material describes different recovery and progression systems, including Tourniquet recovery, MIA Operator recovery and XP retention after a failed exfil.
| Topic | Current Modern Warfare 4 DMZ | Legacy Al Mazrah material |
|---|---|---|
| Map and implementation | Hajin Exclusion Zone | Al Mazrah-era DMZ |
| Squad setting | Squad Fill can add two allied players; turn it off for solo play | Older guides may describe different assumptions |
| Recovery | Tourniquet and MIA recovery systems are documented | More punitive single-life rules were documented |
| Progress after failure | DMZ XP earned during the deployment still counts after failed exfil | Do not assume the same progression behavior |
| Extraction advice | Current material includes helicopters and skyhooks | Older guides emphasize marked exfil locations and final exfil |
Use old articles only for broad extraction-shooter principles, not for Hajin routes, mission lists, recovery expectations or gear recommendations.
What should I do after a successful first run?
Return to the FOB and sort the haul before launching again. Move useful rewards into the Stash, review the next Order or Mission and rebuild a low-risk loadout. Do not automatically carry every valuable item into the next deployment just because it survived the previous one.

Then increase difficulty one variable at a time. You might keep the same safe route while adding a second objective, or keep one objective while exploring a new point of interest. Changing the route, mission, gear exposure and extraction plan simultaneously makes it difficult to understand why a run failed.
The FOB’s Stations and progression systems support this gradual approach. The Level 70 track is a long-term framework, not a reason to force high-risk content on your first deployment.
Solo DMZ mistakes that end first deployments
- Squad Fill left on: you enter expecting a solo run but receive two allied players. Check the setting before every launch.
- Taking rare gear “just this once”: a learning mistake becomes an expensive loss. Use recoverable essentials.
- Looting before orienting: containers do not matter if you do not know your route out.
- Fighting every AI group: noise and medical costs can be more dangerous than the patrol.
- Stacking missions: several partial objectives create competing routes and late decisions.
- Ignoring the return route: reaching the objective is only half the deployment.
- Waiting for maximum loot: one extra room can erase a successful objective.
- Repeating the same failed push: change the cause of failure, not merely the weapon.
A repeatable first-deployment plan
Use this sequence until it becomes automatic:
- At the FOB, select the Active Duty Operator and one achievable Order or Mission.
- Turn Squad Fill off.
- Equip a basic plate carrier, Backpack, weapon and medkit; leave rare gear in the Stash.
- Identify the objective, a primary extraction and a fallback extraction on the Tac Map.
- After infil, move to cover and observe before looting.
- Approach the objective by the route with the best disengagement options.
- Fight only when the engagement protects the objective, an essential route or your survival.
- Keep Backpack space for objective and survival items.
- Once the objective is complete, begin the return route immediately.
- Extract, sort the haul at the FOB and adjust only one risk variable for the next run.
This plan is intentionally conservative. It builds the map knowledge and decision discipline that make deeper Hajin deployments safer later.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play the current DMZ completely alone without random teammates?
Yes. Disable Squad Fill before launching from the FOB. When Squad Fill is enabled, the documented behavior places you with two allied players, so checking the toggle is essential for a true solo deployment.
Do I lose all of my progress when a DMZ deployment fails?
No. Current guidance says DMZ XP earned during the deployment still counts even if you fail to exfil. You can also have recovery options through the Tourniquet and MIA systems, although a successful extraction remains the best way to preserve gear and operator continuity.
What should I practice after my first successful extraction?
Repeat the same general route while changing only one variable, such as adding a second objective or approaching a new point of interest. This isolates mistakes and builds Hajin map knowledge without risking several new decisions at once.
Why do older DMZ guides give me different advice about death and extraction?
Many older guides cover the Al Mazrah version from Warzone 2.0, which documented different exfil and single-life rules. The current Hajin implementation has its own extraction options and recovery mechanics, so use legacy articles only for broad concepts.
