That is a manufacturer maximum—not a promise of typical usable airtime. DJI also lists up to 28 minutes of hovering, measured under a different test setup. Wind, how you fly, and firmware can affect actual results, so plan to land with battery in reserve rather than aiming for either maximum.
How long does the DJI Flip battery last?
DJI’s maximum-flight-time figure is 31 minutes. In DJI’s test, the drone flew forward at a constant 6 m/s in conditions equivalent to windless operation at sea level, with obstacle avoidance set to Brake and the camera in Photo mode. The test ran until forced landing due to battery depletion. DJI cautions that actual experience varies with environment, usage, and firmware. DJI Flip specifications
DJI separately lists a maximum hovering time of 28 minutes. That figure comes from a windless hover test 20 m above sea level, in Photo mode, from 100% battery to 0%. Because the flight and hover figures use different conditions and activities, the three-minute difference is not a direct comparison of equivalent tests. DJI Flip support specifications
| DJI rating | Activity and stated conditions | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 31 minutes | Forward flight at a constant 6 m/s; windless-equivalent conditions at sea level; Brake obstacle-avoidance setting; Photo mode; test ends at forced landing from battery depletion | A controlled-condition maximum flight-time specification, not a typical-flight promise |
| Up to 28 minutes | Hovering in windless conditions 20 m above sea level; Photo mode; 100% to 0% battery | A separate maximum hover specification measured under different conditions |
Both figures are DJI manufacturer specifications, not independent real-world test results. DJI says actual experience may vary with the environment, usage, and firmware version.

Does the DJI Flip really fly for 31 minutes?
It can reach DJI’s rated maximum under the stated test conditions, but 31 minutes should not be treated as the amount of time available for every outing or planned shot. The specification’s forced-landing endpoint describes how DJI conducted the test; it is not a recommended target for normal piloting.
Wind and flight profile can change the load and the time available. Repeated hovering, aggressive maneuvers, and extra repositioning also use time that could otherwise go toward a planned shot. DJI does not quantify how many minutes any one factor adds or subtracts, so a precise adjustment would be misleading.

How can you get more usable flight time from a DJI Flip?
- Plan the route and return before takeoff. Account for where you intend to fly and how you will get back, rather than using the maximum rating as your route duration.
- Watch the app’s battery and return-to-home prompts. Treat them as cues to manage the flight and return, not as reasons to use the battery down to the forced-landing test endpoint.
- Keep the flight purposeful. Avoid unnecessary hovering, aggressive maneuvers, and repeated repositioning when the goal is to preserve time for a particular shot.
- Bring a spare battery for another flight session. A spare lets you swap batteries after landing; it does not extend the runtime of the battery currently in the drone.
Does a spare DJI Flip battery extend one flight?
No. A spare provides another flight opportunity after you land and swap batteries; it does not increase the runtime of a single battery. DJI’s compatible DJI Flip Intelligent Flight Battery is model BWX141-3110-7.16, rated at 3110 mAh and 22.3 Wh. DJI lists its weight at approximately 83.5 g and nominal voltage at 7.16 V.
How long does the DJI Flip take to charge?
DJI lists different charging times depending on whether you charge through the aircraft or use the Parallel Charging Hub. The estimates below are tied to DJI’s stated charger conditions; hub charging two batteries in parallel also requires a sufficiently powerful USB PD supply and cable.

What does the DJI Flip Parallel Charging Hub do?
The hub can charge up to two batteries, store four, and act as a power bank for USB-C devices when at least one battery is stored. It helps manage and recharge multiple batteries between flights; it does not make an individual battery last longer in the air. DJI Flip Parallel Charging Hub FAQ

Why does a stored DJI Flip battery lose charge?
The DJI Flip battery automatically self-discharges during idle storage. DJI says it reduces to about 96% after three idle days and to 60% after 45 idle days; users cannot set when this controlled self-discharge begins. Moderate warmth during the process is normal, so the behavior by itself is not proof that the battery is defective. DJI battery auto-discharging guidance
