ISCAS 2025 took place in London on May 25–28, 2025, under the theme “Technology Disruption and Society.” In an April 30 preview for EE Times, Sunny Bains used neuromorphic engineering as a guide to selected topics spanning low-power computing, robotics, sensing, and memory. The event has ended, and the preview offers a selective view—not a complete account of the conference program.

When and where was ISCAS 2025?

The 2025 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS) was held in London, United Kingdom, from May 25 through May 28, 2025. The official conference site thanks attendees and points to Shanghai for the 2026 symposium.

The official theme was “Technology Disruption and Society.” The conference site connected it to the potential for technology and integrated electronic systems to help address societal challenges. Sunny Bains’s April 30, 2025 preview for EE Times described more than 1,000 lectures, posters, and tutorials; that count is Bains’s figure, not one independently confirmed on the official page.

What is neuromorphic engineering, and how did it appear at ISCAS 2025?

Neuromorphic engineering draws on the circuitry and organization of the brain to develop intelligent systems. Bains used it as a personal route through a much broader program, connecting work on devices, algorithms, sensors, and complete systems. The examples below are topics highlighted in that preview, not evidence of commercial deployment or a full inventory of conference papers.

Edge intelligence and low-power computing

The preview pointed to a tutorial on chiplets and 2.5D integration for edge intelligence, another on implementing large language models with a small power budget, and a session on mapping spiking neural networks onto many-core neuromorphic processors. Together, these topics raise a practical design question: how to distribute computation while managing power and system scale. The preview does not supply comparable performance figures for the approaches.

Learning systems and robotic control

Examples included a plenary on continuous learning, a neuromorphic robot controller with on-chip learning, a reward-driven self-learning robot, and smooth closed-loop robotic-arm control. These topics explore ways for a system to adapt or respond during operation; their inclusion in the program does not establish that the capabilities are ready for general-purpose products.

Sensing and neural codes

Highlighted work included correlating temporal neural codes in analog VLSI across sensor modalities represented as spike trains. The preview also described a large-area tactile-sensing approach using capacitive shear sensors integrated with thin-film transistor technology, and “Laconic Neuromorphic Vision,” which encodes scene dynamics into sparse spike representations. These examples connect sensing to how information is represented and processed, rather than treating a sensor as an isolated component.

Devices, memory, and implementation challenges

Bains also highlighted modeling of memimpedance—a combination of properties associated with memristors and memcapacitors—and work on mismatch-tolerant neuromorphic computing. The preview named analog variability and catastrophic forgetting in quantized spiking neural networks as research concerns. It does not report results that would allow readers to compare these approaches quantitatively.

What else was on the ISCAS 2025 program?

Neuromorphic engineering was the preview’s organizing thread, not the conference’s only subject. Bains also mentioned cybersecurity; automotive and sustainability systems; satellite systems; quantum computing on a chip; large language models; low-power CMOS and analog circuit design; brain-interface neurotechnologies; and IoT communications and control.

The official site lists plenary speakers Isabelle Ferain of GlobalFoundries, Bogdan Staszewski of University College Dublin, Dhireesha Kudithipudi of The University of Texas at San Antonio, Bor-Sung Liang of MediaTek, and Piero Angeletti of the European Space Agency. Bains associated those plenaries, respectively, with low-power CMOS, quantum computing on a chip, continuous learning, LLMs, and satellite systems. Those descriptions reflect the preview; they should not be read as a complete summary of each plenary.

Is ISCAS 2025 still upcoming?

No. The London symposium concluded on May 28, 2025. The official conference site directs readers to Shanghai for ISCAS 2026. The available event and preview pages do not establish a current product recommendation, a purchasable device tied to the featured work, or a complete paper-by-paper account. For specific papers, authors, session times, or findings, consult the official program or proceedings rather than treating a preview as exhaustive.
