The Dimensity 9500s has the stronger published CPU configuration and newer GPU tier, while the Dimensity 8500 uses eight Cortex-A725 cores and a Mali-G720 GPU. Available comparison-page benchmark results favor the 9500s, but the reported scores vary within the same page and should not be treated as universal chip averages. One naming detail matters: MediaTek calls its chip the Dimensity 8500; “8500 Ultra” is the name used for a handset version by 91mobiles.
Dimensity 9500s vs Dimensity 8500 Ultra: key specifications
MediaTek announced both chips on January 15, 2026. The 9500s is specified as a 3nm chip with a mix of high-performance and efficiency cores; the Dimensity 8500 is a 4nm chip built around eight Cortex-A725 cores. The table uses MediaTek’s official name for the latter and notes where 91mobiles supplies additional details for its “8500 Ultra” comparison entry.
| Specification | Dimensity 9500s | Dimensity 8500 / “8500 Ultra” |
|---|---|---|
| Announcement | January 15, 2026 (MediaTek) | January 15, 2026; MediaTek calls it Dimensity 8500, while 91mobiles uses “8500 Ultra” for its comparison entry |
| Manufacturing process | 3nm (MediaTek, 2026) | 4nm (MediaTek, 2026) |
| CPU | 1 Cortex-X925 up to 3.73GHz, 3 Cortex-X4, and 4 Cortex-A720 (MediaTek, 2026) | 8 Cortex-A725 cores up to 3.4GHz (MediaTek, 2026); 91mobiles lists 3.4/3.2/2.2GHz group frequencies for its Ultra entry |
| GPU | Immortalis-G925; MediaTek says it supports advanced ray tracing | Mali-G720; 91mobiles specifies MP8 for its Ultra entry. MediaTek says the Dimensity 8500 applies ray tracing technology to mainstream mobile games |
| Memory | Not stated in the cited MediaTek announcement | LPDDR5X at 9600Mbps listed by MediaTek for Dimensity 8500 |
| Imaging and video | MediaTek lists real-time 30fps motion tracking and 8K full-focus Dolby Vision HDR recording | MediaTek describes AI telephoto and image-semantic features; matching video limits are not stated in the cited announcement |
| Connectivity | MediaTek lists a 5G Release-17 modem, 4CC carrier aggregation, and up to 7Gbps downlink | A matching modem figure is not stated in the cited announcement |
These are platform capabilities, not a guarantee that every phone exposes them. Memory, imaging features, connectivity, and other capabilities depend on the handset maker’s implementation; the cited announcements do not establish matching configurations across phones.
Which chip is faster?
The published core designs put the 9500s in the higher tier: it has one Cortex-X925 core paired with three Cortex-X4 cores, whereas all eight cores in the Dimensity 8500 are Cortex-A725. The 9500s also uses the Immortalis-G925 GPU rather than the Mali-G720. Those specifications suggest greater performance potential, but they do not establish how a particular phone will perform under sustained load.

MediaTek claims the Dimensity 8500 delivers 25% higher GPU peak performance and 20% lower GPU power consumption than a previous generation. The cited release does not identify the comparison baseline, so those percentages cannot be assigned to the 9500s or used as a direct comparison between these two chips.
Benchmark results: what the published numbers show
91mobiles reports higher results for the 9500s in both of its displayed score sets. Its summary and benchmark sections do not agree on every figure, however, so they should be kept separate rather than combined. These are results displayed on a comparison page, not controlled, universal SoC averages.

The benchmark panel also breaks its displayed AnTuTu scores into CPU, GPU, memory, and UX subtotals. AnTuTu describes its comparison as covering CPU, GPU, memory, and overall performance. A separate AnTuTu live ranking page, accessed October 4, 2026, displays 1,852,350 for the Dimensity 9500s and 1,224,486 for the Dimensity 8500 Ultra, with CPU and GPU subtotals. That ranking is a different context and its numbers are not directly interchangeable with 91mobiles’ results.
Benchmark scores can change with the phone’s cooling, firmware, memory configuration, power limits, benchmark version, and test conditions. The available figures do not establish a controlled, same-lab comparison of phones using these chips, nor do they measure battery life or heat.

What the comparison means when choosing a phone
If two otherwise comparable phones are available, the 9500s has the stronger published CPU mix and the more advanced named GPU. But chip specifications alone cannot identify the better phone. Compare the actual models on the factors that shape everyday use:
- Sustained performance: Look for testing of the exact handset, since its cooling system and power limits affect how long it can maintain performance.
- Display and battery: Panel characteristics and battery capacity are phone-level decisions, not settled by the chipset comparison.
- Cameras: A platform feature does not guarantee that a manufacturer implements it or produces better photos and video.
- Memory and software: Check the configuration, update commitments, and software experience of the specific model.
- Price and availability: Confirm the price and regional availability where you plan to buy; a chip name does not establish either.
91mobiles associates the 9500s with the POCO X8 Pro Max and OPPO Find X9s, and the 8500 Ultra with the Xiaomi Redmi Turbo 5, POCO X8 Pro, and Xiaomi 17T. These are examples listed on that comparison page, not assurances of current global availability or a controlled comparison among those phones. Its displayed prices are in Indian rupees.
