Somewhat, in some places—but the evidence does not show that summer heat caused the change. A 2026 European tracker summary found small increases in some measures of climate concern, alongside larger increases in people noticing heatwaves or drought and linking weather events to climate change. UK polling showed only a modest seasonal rise in overall concern, while U.S. polling measured perceived links between unusual heat and climate change rather than a rise in worry.
What the surveys can—and cannot—tell us
“Worry about climate change” is not the same as noticing more heat, believing climate change contributed to a weather event, or saying the issue is personally important. Surveys ask different questions of different populations at different times. Their results are useful evidence of what respondents report, but they should not be read as one continuous measure of public concern.
There is also a limit to the causal claim in the headline. A change in survey responses after a hot summer can be associated with that summer without proving the summer produced the change. Establishing cause would require evidence that separates heat’s effect from other influences; the public summaries discussed here do not do that.
European polling points to increased heat awareness and a small rise in some concern measures
CORE’s 2026 tracker summary
The Climate Opinion Research Exchange (CORE) Wave 9 summary says its online data were collected in July and August 2026 in most locations, with Norstat used in Scandinavian countries and Senegal. It reports a slight rise in the share of Europeans who were very worried about climate change. It also reports a 12-percentage-point increase in the share noticing more frequent heatwaves and/or drought, a 6-point increase in strong agreement that respondents had personally experienced weather events resulting from climate change, and a 5-point increase in belief that climate change will harm the world. Climate salience also rose in France, Italy and Spain. CORE Wave 9 summary and reported changes

- [Wireless Weather Station with Atomic Time&Date] Atomic alarm clock weather station can be used not only as a wireless indoor outdoor thermometer but also as an atomic clock with dual alarms.
These measures do not all represent worry: noticing heat, personal attribution, expected harm and issue salience are distinct responses. The summary does not establish that heat alone caused any increase, nor does it show that every European country changed in the same way.
EEA and Eurofound survey: broad exposure and concern, not a before-and-after test
A report published by the European Environment Agency (EEA) and Eurofound on 4 February 2026 draws on Eurofound’s 2025 online survey of more than 27,000 respondents across 27 European countries. Four in five respondents said they had experienced at least one listed climate-related impact in the previous five years, and more than half were very or quite concerned about future extreme temperatures. Those results show substantial reported exposure and concern, but they do not isolate the effect of one summer. EEA-Eurofound findings

The same survey found that more than 38% said they could not afford to keep their home adequately cool in summer. That figure speaks to people’s ability to cope with heat; it is not a measure of climate worry. EEA-Eurofound cooling affordability finding
UK concern rose slightly from spring to summer 2025
The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s nationally representative Public Attitudes Tracker surveyed people aged 16 and older from 8 July to 13 August 2025. Overall climate concern was 79% in Summer 2025, compared with 77% in Spring 2025. The longer series also shows 85% in Autumn 2021. This is a small seasonal increase after a dip, not evidence that heat drove concern—and the summer reading remained below the Autumn 2021 level. DESNZ Public Attitudes Tracker

U.S. polling found heat attribution, not rising worry
Pew Research Center surveyed 5,085 U.S. adults from 28 April to 4 May 2025 through its American Trends Panel, recruited by random sampling of residential addresses and weighted to represent the U.S. Among roughly half who said they had experienced long periods of unusually hot weather in the previous year, 91% said climate change contributed to that heat: 64% said “a lot” and 27% “a little.” This measures attribution among people reporting unusual heat, not whether their concern increased over time. Pew’s U.S. heat survey
Pew also found that 60% of Democrats and 37% of Republicans reported unusually hot weather in the previous year. These are differences in reported experience, not objective measurements of the temperatures each group encountered. Pew findings by party

A separate 2025 summary from the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication says 64% of U.S. adults believed global warming was affecting extreme heat. Yale distinguishes weather—the conditions people experience day to day—from climate, the long-term average of weather conditions over decades or longer. A single hot season cannot, on its own, establish a climate trend. Yale climate opinion summary
