Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber entertained the idea of a subscription mouse in a July 2024 interview—but Logitech later said the “forever mouse” she discussed was not an actual or planned product. In an October 2025 interview, Faber also called it “not an actual plan.” There is no announced subscription mouse, price, or offer to sign up for.

What did Logitech’s CEO say about a subscription mouse?

In a July 2024 episode of The Verge’s Decoder, host Nilay Patel asked Faber, “Can you envision a subscription mouse?” She answered, “Possibly.” Patel then connected the idea to a “forever mouse” and asked whether users would pay a subscription for software updates. Faber agreed with that framing and described a device people would “never have to worry about again.”

Faber discussed a durable mouse that could receive software updates over time, and compared the business-model thinking with Logitech’s video-conferencing services. She also agreed when Patel noted that a mouse is different from those services. This was an exploratory interview exchange, not an announcement of a product or its terms. The transcript gives no price, billing interval, launch date, features, or customer eligibility. Read the Decoder interview at The Verge.

Did Logitech announce or plan to sell it?

No. The Verge later reported Logitech’s response that the mouse was “not an actual or planned product,” but rather “a peek into provocative internal thinking on future possibilities for more sustainable consumer electronics.” That wording describes an idea under consideration, not a device customers can buy or subscribe to. The Verge’s report attributes the statement to Logitech.

What did Faber clarify later?

In an October 2025 interview with Fast Company, Faber addressed the coverage and consumer reaction. She said, “I never used the word subscription. And it’s not an actual plan.” She added that she likes designers to think big, but that she should probably “keep my mouth shut when talking about these ideas.” Her later comments reinforce that the discussion was speculative, rather than a commitment to launch a subscription product. Read the Fast Company interview.

What would a real subscription mouse need to explain?

The interviews establish a durable-mouse concept and discussion of software updates; they do not establish how a subscription would work. To evaluate any future proposal, a buyer would need clear answers to questions such as:

These are questions for assessing a hypothetical product, not terms Logitech announced.

Is there a Logitech mouse you can buy now?

Logitech sells conventional mice, but the reporting does not identify any existing model as the proposed “forever mouse” or as a subscription product. Fast Company mentions the Pro X Superlight gaming mouse as an ordinary product example; that does not make it the concept discussed in the interviews.

What about the $26 figure?

In the 2024 interview, Faber said global average spending on mice and keyboards was “$26.” The available interview material does not establish the underlying dataset, the period, how “average spend” was defined, or how the figure was calculated. It should be treated as a figure she stated in conversation, not as an independently verified market statistic.
