Yes. Microsoft’s October 24, 2024 release notes for Windows 11 24H2 update KB5044384 explicitly say it fixed errors that occurred every time users ran sfc /scannow. However, Microsoft’s note does not identify WebView2 as the cause, so the update’s SFC fix is confirmed but the “WebView2 bug” attribution is not.
What Microsoft confirmed about the SFC error
KB5044384 is a preview update for all editions of Windows 11 version 24H2. Released October 24, 2024, it moves the operating system to build 26100.2161. In its Improvements section, Microsoft labels the item “[sfc /scannow command]” and states: “Fixed: You get errors every time you run the command.” Microsoft’s KB5044384 release notes
Does Microsoft say WebView2 caused it?
No. The SFC item in Microsoft’s release notes confirms that recurring errors from sfc /scannow were fixed, but it does not mention WebView2 or explain the underlying cause. It is accurate to say KB5044384 fixed the documented SFC errors; the available Microsoft statement does not establish that WebView2 caused them.
How to get KB5044384
Microsoft lists Windows Update and the Microsoft Update Catalog as installation channels for KB5044384. The update is identified as a preview release. The KB page also notes that if earlier updates are installed, only the new updates included in this package are downloaded and installed. Check Windows Update’s available optional updates or use the catalog entry if you need this specific package; current availability can vary as later cumulative updates supersede earlier releases.

KB5044384 is not the October 8 security update
KB5044384 should not be confused with KB5044284, the October 8, 2024 security update for Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025, which brought Windows 11 24H2 to build 26100.2033. KB5044284’s notes separately say that KB5044384 addresses a DirectAccess connection issue. That DirectAccess fix is distinct from the SFC fix Microsoft lists in KB5044384’s own release notes.
