No—not on the evidence published so far. A report on Kalshi’s newly launched 15-minute commodity markets compared gold with Bitcoin, not Ether, and said gold’s peak daily volume was still far below Bitcoin’s. It did not provide a like-for-like Ether figure, so the claim that gold overtook Ether is unverified.
What Kalshi’s early 15-minute market data shows
Kalshi introduced 15-minute up-or-down event contracts on gold, silver and oil around the end of July 2026. Gaming America reported on August 18 that the markets were gaining traction and ranked among Kalshi’s popular markets outside sports and crypto. Its published figures, however, combine all three commodities.
| Measure | Reported result | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Trading volume | $14,110,739 | Gold, silver and WTI combined, July 31–August 14, 2026 |
| Trades | 552,090 | Gold, silver and WTI combined, July 31–August 14, 2026 |
| Average trade size | $30.43 | Combined 15-minute commodity markets over the same period |
| Largest trade | $46,759 | Combined 15-minute commodity markets over the same period |
Gaming America also reported that each of the three commodities exceeded $1 million in volume on every weekday from August 5 through its reporting period. On August 14, the markets saw more than 550,000 trades combined. These figures indicate early activity, but they do not isolate gold’s cumulative volume or establish a comparison with Ether. Why the Ether comparison is not established
The report’s explicit crypto benchmark was Kalshi’s 15-minute Bitcoin markets. It said Bitcoin’s daily volume was rarely below $100 million, while the highest daily volume reported for 15-minute gold through August 14 was just under $8 million. That is a gold-versus-Bitcoin comparison—not evidence that gold did or did not exceed Ether.

The report does not give an Ether volume series or identify a period, activity measure, or cutoff for a direct gold-Ether comparison. A defensible ranking would need to match the two markets on all of those points: 15-minute contract interval, comparable dates, daily or cumulative volume (rather than mixing measures), and a clear definition of the activity being counted. Without that paired data, “overtake Ether” cannot be treated as a verified result.
What the larger commodities-volume claim means
On September 8, Kalshi said its commodities category had reached more than $400 million in trading volume in seven months and was growing more than four times as fast as crypto markets at the same point in their lifecycle. Reuters also reported Kalshi’s claim that monthly commodities volume exceeded $400 million and was four times crypto volume at the same stage. These are broad, category-level figures attributed to Kalshi; they do not measure 15-minute gold or compare it with Ether. Kalshi’s September 8 announcement · Reuters via Investing.com

Why fast-settling contracts can generate repeated trading
A 15-minute up-or-down contract resolves quickly, allowing a participant to enter another successive window soon after one settles. Gaming America suggested that repeated trading and bot activity may contribute to volume. The report characterized those points as observations and interpretation, including discussion of online trading communities; it did not present audited data showing what share of activity came from bots or repeat trades.

Volume should therefore be read as activity, not as a count of unique traders or proof of durable demand. Kalshi co-founder Tarek Mansour has described liquidity as depending on enough active participants being available both to enter and exit positions, as quoted by Reuters. That general point does not verify the gold-Ether comparison.

Kalshi’s 15-minute market interface documentation describes live charts, the order book, market indexes and comparison views. To assess a claimed ranking, verify the same reporting window and market interval for both instruments, then confirm whether the cited figure is daily volume, cumulative notional, trade count or open interest. A chart or order book can help inspect current market activity, but a valid historical comparison requires aligned data for both markets. Kalshi Pro Help: 15-minute markets
