Google’s documentation does not confirm that ChromeOS 136 brought rounded app-window corners back. Google described rounded corners as a ChromeOS 132 feature for Chromebook Plus devices; ChromeOS 136’s release date was April 23, 2025. The available release notes do not establish that version 136 restored the feature after it had been removed.
What Google documented about rounded corners
In its ChromeOS 132 Stable announcement, Google said: “As part of a new UI design, ChromeOS now features rounded corners on all app windows on Chromebook Plus devices.” The statement attributes the feature to ChromeOS 132 and specifies Chromebook Plus devices—not every Chromebook.
ChromeOS.dev’s release notes index also lists rounded corners among the ChromeOS 132 features. Neither source, as available here, documents a later removal followed by a restoration in ChromeOS 136.
What ChromeOS 136’s date does—and does not—tell us
Google’s previous release notes list April 23, 2025, as the ChromeOS 136 release date. That date confirms when the release was recorded; it does not, by itself, verify that rounded corners returned in that version.

The claim that ChromeOS 136 “brought back” rounded window corners appears in a Chrome Unboxed headline. The official feature description located for this topic is associated with ChromeOS 132. The sources cited here do not establish when or why the feature’s behavior may have changed on particular devices or builds, so a restoration timeline cannot be confirmed from them.
What Chromebook owners can conclude
- Google documented rounded corners on app windows in ChromeOS 132.
- The documented scope is Chromebook Plus devices; the announcement does not say the feature applies to all Chromebooks.
- ChromeOS 136 is listed as released on April 23, 2025, but the cited official notes do not substantiate the claim that it restored the feature.
This is a conclusion about the release documentation, not a hands-on check of a particular Chromebook, update channel, or build. A device’s actual window appearance may require checking that device and its software version directly.
