What happens to Naruto in Boruto?
In Chapter 77, “Time Drawing Near,” Kawaki decides to eliminate the Otsutsuki, including Boruto, who carries Momoshiki within him. Naruto and Hinata oppose Kawaki’s plan to kill their son. Kawaki then seals both of them in an alternate dimension before confronting Boruto.

The NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE recap puts it plainly: “Kawaki seals them in an alternate dimension before they can interfere.” The fight that follows leaves Boruto with an injury to his right eye. Kawaki flees as Leaf ninja pursue him.
Does Naruto lose the Seventh Hokage title?
The cited Chapter 77 recap does not report that Naruto is formally removed from office or that anyone takes the title from him. It establishes that Kawaki takes Naruto out of the events unfolding in Konoha by sealing him away. That is a major plot development, but it is not the same as an official change to the Hokage position.

Shueisha’s official series description presents Naruto as the Seventh Hokage governing the Hidden Leaf village. Read alongside the Chapter 77 recap, that supports a careful distinction: Naruto is sidelined from the immediate action, while the cited sources do not establish that his title has been revoked.
Where this moment fits in the story
The official NARUTO site’s recap covers manga Volumes 16–20 and places the sealing in Chapter 77. A separate official character recap later describes Naruto’s condition as unknown at that point in its account; it also says Kawaki senses the Hokage’s chakra through his prosthetic arm and uses space-time ninjutsu with Boruto’s help. Those details belong to a separate plot moment, not the Chapter 77 confrontation.
