On September 26, 2026, an unidentified Reddit author said they had run a custom program directly on a Hasselblad X2D and experimented with changes to its user interface. The post said an open-source release was planned; it did not say Doom had been ported or was running. A commenter’s hope to play Doom on the camera is not confirmation.
What the post actually says
The September 26, 2026 Reddit post is a first-person account of custom code running on a Hasselblad X2D, along with experiments modifying the camera interface. Its author said they planned to publish the project as open source. The author is not identified in the available post, so the work cannot be attributed to a named researcher. Read the Reddit post.
Crucially, the post does not report a completed Doom port. The Doom reference in the discussion is a commenter saying, “Looking forward to playing Doom on my X2D.” That expresses anticipation, not evidence that the game has been ported or demonstrated.
Has Doom been shown running on the X2D?
The available account does not establish that Doom runs on the camera. It also does not establish that the planned open-source release has since appeared, that another person has reproduced the experiment, or that the software is safe for general installation. Those claims would require a published project or other direct evidence.

Which Hasselblad X2D and what does “$8,000” mean?
Hasselblad’s official materials describe the X2D 100C as a mirrorless medium-format camera. Hasselblad announced it in 2022 with a US manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $8,199, excluding sales tax. Thus, “$8,000” is a rounded reference to the historical launch price—not a verified current price or a claim about present availability. Hasselblad’s 2022 announcement.
What the camera specifications do—and don’t—tell us
The X2D 100C datasheet lists a 43.8 × 32.9 mm sensor, compatibility with Hasselblad XCD lenses, and a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C connection with transfer speeds up to 10 Gbit/s. These specifications describe the camera, but they do not explain how the custom program was loaded or executed. A fast USB connection alone is not evidence of a particular software installation method. Hasselblad X2D 100C product information and datasheet.
