Reliable runs in Dicevaders start with the columns your dice can actually score. Place useful units where your rolls can reach them, build around the commander’s starting perk, and spend Budge and Chrono only when they improve a scoring turn or solve a specific problem. Then adapt to the next Pilot instead of forcing a combo that no longer works.
Dicevaders is a single-player, dice-based roguelike deckbuilder developed by Pengonauts and published by Playstack. The game released on Steam on September 29, 2026. You draft units, artifacts and resources, then use dice results to activate columns on a turn-based grid. The official Steam listing describes Chrono as a way to reroll dice and restock the shop, Budge as a way to steer dice toward a desired combo, and commanders as a source of distinct abilities and synergies.
How scoring works—and what to build toward
The board has six numbered columns. A Base Die showing 2 targets column 2; it does not mean that face automatically deals twice as much damage as a 1. Dice Power determines how much Strength in a scored column contributes to attack. Ordinary Base Dice that score the same column add Dice Power: for example, a 10-Strength unit in a column scored at 2 Dice Power contributes 20 attack. Units in other columns do not join that score unless an effect specifically makes them score.
Mult multiplies the turn’s attack and resets at turn end. Think of a build as a repeatable engine: Strength makes each activation hit harder, Dice Power increases the Strength counted for a scoring column, Mult amplifies that turn’s attack, and extra scoring opportunities help valuable units activate more often. Track Total Attack against the encounter’s Target Defense; do not assume every planet must fall in one launch.

Choose a commander whose perk you can trigger
Read the starting perk before spending heavily on a synergy. The official Captain spotlight calls The Mothership the Captain’s primary strength: it provides +1 Budge at turn start and sends +10 XP to an artifact in a column when a pair scores there. The spotlight names Monocle, which lets isolated Base Dice count as pairs, and Rocketship, which grants Strength to a random unit when Budge is used. Those pieces matter when their conditions fit your board and plan—not simply because their descriptions share a keyword.
A current beginner walkthrough gives a different example: Blob Girl starts each turn with three Mini-Dice and grants artifact XP in a column after a Mini-Die scores there. That makes Mini-Dice both scoring chances and a way to grow an artifact. The walkthrough’s suggested chain includes Broodmother, Spiky Gel and Acid Town, but it depends on finding the pieces and triggering them in useful columns; it is not a guaranteed shop sequence.

Place units and artifacts where dice can reach them
- Start with columns that already contain useful units or artifacts, then add attackers where likely rolls can activate them.
- Group units beneath artifacts whose effects require that same column to score.
- When an artifact needs a pair or triple, an interior column is often easier to reach with one-step corrections from either side.
- A triple unlocks a locked artifact slot only when it scores in that same column.
Adjacency alone does not make a unit score. Look for an explicit effect that scores units in other columns before relying on a cross-board interaction.
Use Budge and Chrono to solve a specific problem
Budge shifts a die result one step up or down. After being budged, that die is cracked and cannot be budged again until it has been rerolled. Use a correction when it completes a valuable pair or triple, opens a needed slot, or triggers an artifact—not just to move a die into an empty column.

Chrono is shared between rerolling Base Dice and refreshing the shop. Freeze the dice you want to keep before rerolling the rest. A refresh is worth considering when you can afford a useful offer among the likely items; the shop’s lock option can preserve an offer you cannot buy yet. Keep enough Chrono for a likely fight-time repair rather than spending the last of it on a speculative refresh.
Buy for the next turn or for lasting growth
Money left when leaving a shop becomes Mini-Dice instead of carrying forward. Before buying, identify the build’s next bottleneck: a unit that scores too rarely, too little Strength or Dice Power, an artifact that needs XP, or no open room for a valuable unit.

- Buy a Build Tile when the army has no room for a useful unit.
- Spend artifact XP when the next level improves an effect you actually trigger.
- Buy dice-control resources when they support a planned correction or reroll.
- Refresh with Chrono only when a useful offer is both plausible and affordable.
One walkthrough’s Mini-Dice example has Broodmother spend Charge to create Mini-Dice based on Dice Power, Spiky Gel turn received Mini-Dice into Strength, and Acid Town use Mini-Dice scoring to activate units in other columns. This is a possible engine, not a universal recipe: it relies on placement, available Charge, random targeting and the commander’s perk variant.

Skipping improves shop rarity, but it also gives up remaining turns for purchases, turn-start effects and unit growth. Take the offer when the better rarity is likely to reveal pieces your build needs and you can afford them. Stay when the army still benefits more from another purchase or growth opportunity. Check the game’s defeated marker and Skip offer rather than assuming that matching attack and defense ends the planet.

Prepare for the next Pilot’s rule
Inspect an upcoming Pilot and plan around its ability before committing resources. A beginner walkthrough updated October 1, 2026 reports these rules for the regular invasion route:
- Noel: Hyperfreeze blocks rerolls, so Budge can provide a one-step correction.
- Roxy: Base Dice start cracked, which may make Chrono necessary to reroll before Budge is available.
- Kaia: Scoring a marked column with Base Dice increases its defense.
- Iris: A Puppet appears at turn start when none is present.
These are guide-reported launch-era mechanics, not a guarantee for every mode or later patch. Recheck the live game’s rules when a Pilot behaves differently, and do not assume advice for a regular invasion covers the True Ending or extended Endless play.
Diagnose why an attack is falling short
- Mult is high but attack is low: Improve Strength or Dice Power on units that score.
- Strong units seldom activate: Add scoring frequency through Mini-Dice, Repeat, or an effect that scores units from another column.
- A correction is unavailable: Check whether the die is cracked and whether a reroll is possible before spending elsewhere.
- The encounter is already safe: A shield can bridge a small gap, but lasting growth or a resource for the next correction is usually more useful.
- The result looks incomplete: Let the full Base Dice and Mini-Dice chain resolve before comparing Total Attack with Target Defense.
Compare options by reliability, not just their headline effect
For units, artifacts and upgrades, ask whether their trigger can happen in reachable columns, what they scale, what resources they consume, whether the commander’s perk supports them, and whether the next Pilot disrupts the plan. For a Skip decision, weigh the rarity improvement and your ability to afford better offers against the purchases and growth you would give up. This keeps a promising combo from becoming a fragile build that depends on a roll or trigger you cannot realistically reach.
