DiBcom’s “2 in 1” launch was about integrating a terrestrial-TV tuner and demodulator in a chipset family, with one model for DVB-T and another that could receive either DVB-T or DVB-H. Announced in September 2006, the parts were aimed at manufacturers building TVs and other portable or mobile devices—not at consumers choosing a current USB tuner. The company also promoted diversity reception, a dual-antenna approach intended to help reception in difficult conditions.
What DiBcom announced in September 2006
EDN reported on September 6, 2006 that DiBcom had introduced its “2 in 1” family. The phrase referred to combining tuner and demodulator functions in a chipset, simplifying the receiver electronics that a device maker would integrate into a product. It did not mean that each model could receive DVB-T and DVB-H simultaneously.
| Chip | Standard support | What the announcement said |
|---|---|---|
| DIB7070-P | DVB-T | A three-band UHF/VHF/L-band tuner and demodulator in a low-power chipset. |
| DIB7070-M | DVB-T or DVB-H | The dual-standard family member; the announcement described reception of either standard, not both at once. |
DiBcom presented the family for OEM and ODM integration in PCs, set-top boxes, portable LCD televisions, automotive systems, portable media players, and other personal or mobile TV devices. The company’s CEO Yannick Lévy said that support for DVB-T/H, with single or diversity antennas and RF and baseband options, could serve devices from cell phones to car TVs and portable media players. These were the company’s product positioning and expectations, not independent market findings. EDN’s September 6, 2006 report records the launch and the company’s statements.
What DVB-T and DVB-H meant for the receiver
DVB-T
DVB-T is digital terrestrial television. The DIB7070-P was the DVB-T-only model in the launch; the “P” part should not be described as a DVB-T/H receiver on the basis of this announcement.

DVB-H
DVB-H was designed for multimedia services delivered over terrestrial networks to handheld terminals. ETSI’s EN 302 304 V1.1.1, published in November 2004, describes DVB-H as building on the DVB-T physical layer while adding features for handheld use. Time-slicing can reduce a receiver’s average power use and support handover between transmission cells; MPE-FEC adds error correction to address difficult mobile reception. DVB-H was therefore related to DVB-T, but not merely another name for the same service mode.
That context explains why a chipset family with DVB-T-only and DVB-T-or-DVB-H variants could matter to device makers: it offered different standard choices for their designs while combining key receiver functions. The available launch account does not establish that a single device using DIB7070-M could decode both standards concurrently.

Why DiBcom emphasized diversity reception
In this announcement, diversity meant a receiver design using two tuners and two antennas. DiBcom presented that arrangement as a way to improve reception in challenging indoor or mobile conditions, where movement or the radio environment can make a signal harder to receive reliably. The announcement does not provide independent measurements quantifying the improvement, so this should be understood as the company’s stated benefit rather than a verified performance result.
DiBcom also said a dual-tuner product could record one channel while the viewer watched another. That is a separate use of having two reception paths; it is not a claim that the DIB7070-M itself received DVB-T and DVB-H simultaneously. The launch report also quoted CTO Khaled Maalej saying, “Good enough is not good enough,” reflecting the company’s emphasis on reception performance, rather than supplying a test result.

The 400 mW claim and what it establishes
EDN reported a 400 mW low-power figure for the DIB7070-P, attributed to DiBcom’s 2006 announcement. It is a vendor-published specification, not an independent bench measurement. The cited launch account does not establish that the same figure applies to the DIB7070-M, to a complete receiver, or to every operating mode.
The later STK 7078 MD development platform
A later DiBcom announcement described the STK 7078 MD, a USB 2.0 development platform using DIB7070-M and DIB7078-M components. It was described as supporting DVB-T/H and diversity, with software for Windows XP and Windows Vista. Newslinet reproduced the company press release about this platform in December 2006; this is historical product information, not evidence of present-day availability or compatibility. Newslinet’s reproduction of the STK 7078 MD announcement is the source for those details.

What the launch does—and does not—tell you today
The announcements document a 2006 chipset family and a later development platform intended for product developers. They do not establish current stock, support, compatibility with modern operating systems, or present-day DVB-T or DVB-H broadcast availability. Treat the STK 7078 MD as a historical development tool, not as a current USB tuner recommendation.
