Play Dementium: The Ward first, then Dementium II. That follows the series’ release and story order: The Ward is the original, and Dementium II is its sequel. Dementium II is identified as the sequel to the 2007 The Ward, making the original the straightforward starting point if you want to follow the series in order. The sequel changes both the protagonist and setting, so the evidence supports a chronology-based recommendation—not a claim that the games form one uninterrupted narrative in every detail. What should you expect from Dementium II?
Nintendo Life’s Andrew Wight reviewed the North American Nintendo DS version on 6 June 2010. He praised its atmosphere and controls, but criticized repetitive enemy and audio presentation, a limited narrative, and possible friction from the DS touchscreen interface. He described scarce ammunition and melee weapons such as a knife or hammer. Those are one reviewer’s impressions of the DS edition, not a fresh comparison with the newer versions of The Ward.
