The Dell Precision 7875 is a configurable, high-end tower workstation built for workloads that can use workstation-class CPUs, professional GPUs, and substantial memory and storage. Its strongest case is not a promise that every application will run faster: an independent 2024 test found that results varied sharply by application, and a second GPU helped some compute workloads but not others. Consider it when your software and workload can use the hardware you plan to buy, and verify the exact configuration and current regional price before ordering.

What is the Precision 7875?

The Precision 7875 is a professional tower platform rather than one fixed specification. Dell’s current U.S. product page lists AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX and 9000 WX processor options, multiple professional graphics choices, and Windows 11 Pro, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.6 options. It also lists 1000W and 1350W chassis configurations. The available choices can change, so confirm the processor, GPU, operating system, power supply, and other components in the Dell Precision 7875 Tower Workstation configurator for your market.

Dell’s 7000 WX generation specification sheet describes processors from 12 cores up to 96 cores and 192 threads, DDR5 ECC memory up to 2TB, and several NVIDIA RTX/A and AMD Radeon Pro graphics options. These are platform and generation specifications, not a guarantee that every part is currently selectable in every region. Dell’s engineering overview also identifies PCIe Gen 4.0 and Gen 5.0 support and eight-channel memory; treat these as manufacturer specifications, not independent performance findings.

How did the tested system perform?

StorageReview published its hands-on review on February 13, 2024, after using a system in its lab for several weeks. Its results apply to that test configuration and software versions, not to every Precision 7875. The review unit had a 96-core/192-thread AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX, Windows 11 Pro, a 1350W chassis, 128GB of DDR5-4800 memory in an 8×16GB arrangement, two 48GB NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada GPUs, two 1TB M.2 SSDs in RAID 0, and an 8X 9.5mm optical drive.

Benchmark results depend on the application

Test Reported result What it does—and does not—show
SPECworkstation 3 The 7875 scored 13.72 in Product Development, compared with 11.91 for the HP Z6 G5 A. It scored lower than that HP in Life Sciences, Financial Services, and GPU Compute. Performance varied across workload categories. StorageReview described the two systems’ hardware as broadly similar, with overall results close.
Blender 4.0 Monster, Junkshop, and Classroom results were described as broadly close. The second GPU did not improve the 7875’s scores. This test did not benefit from SLI; the result is not a claim about every Blender workflow or GPU-rendering setup.
LuxMark The dual-RTX 6000 Ada 7875 scored substantially higher than a single-RTX 6000 Ada comparison system. The reviewer reported no score drop with SLI disabled. This demonstrates an advantage in this particular GPU-compute benchmark, not universal scaling in software that can use two GPUs.
SPECviewperf 2020 In some viewsets, the 7875 with SLI enabled scored lower than the same system with SLI disabled. Multi-GPU and SLI configurations do not automatically improve professional graphics results.
Cinebench R23, multi-core Precision 7875: 96,501; HP Z6 G5 A: 100,562; Precision 7960: 58,774. These are StorageReview’s 2024 results for its tested systems, not standardized scores for every configuration of these models.
Cinebench R23, single-core Precision 7875: 1,761; HP Z6 G5 A: 1,709; Precision 7960: 1,689. These results belong to the same review’s tested systems and test method; they should not be separated from that context.

The results make the practical point clear: a 96-core CPU and two powerful GPUs are useful only when the target application can make use of them. StorageReview’s reviewer, Charles P. Jefferies, called it “one of our favorite high-end workstations” for demanding desktop AI or creative-professional applications. That is the reviewer’s judgment about the tested system, not a guarantee for all software or configurations.

Will a second GPU make your work faster?

Not necessarily. StorageReview saw a large advantage for the dual-GPU system in LuxMark, but no Blender 4.0 score improvement from the second card, and some SPECviewperf viewsets performed worse with SLI enabled than with it disabled. The useful question is not simply whether an application supports multiple GPUs; check whether the exact feature or workload you use scales across them, and whether its software version and driver settings support the intended configuration.

  • For GPU rendering or compute, look for results using the same application, version, scene or workload, GPU model, and GPU count you expect to use.
  • For professional viewports, compare the relevant SPECviewperf viewsets or application-specific tests rather than relying on a single overall GPU claim.
  • For CPU-bound work, assess thread scaling and single-thread responsiveness separately; the highest core count alone does not establish the best fit.

How much memory and expansion can it support?

Dell’s 7875 technical specification sheet lists up to 2TB of DDR5 ECC memory, and the platform is described as using eight-channel memory. The maximum is a manufacturer-listed platform limit, not proof that a particular configuration, memory arrangement, or local order option is available. Ask the seller or check the live configurator for the specific capacity, ECC memory modules, and supported arrangement on your quote.

StorageReview described a removable side panel, a front FlexBay, optional network cards, and the ability to use the tower vertically, on its side, or in a rack-mount installation. The exact expansion components and installation requirements depend on the selected configuration; verify them against the quote and the official technical documentation before planning a deployment.

What does the Precision 7875 cost?

When Dell’s U.S. product page was accessed for the information used here, it displayed a price of $4,757. Dell pricing, promotions, default selections, and regional availability can change, so treat that figure as a page snapshot, not a current universal price. StorageReview reported that its specific high-end test configuration cost more than $31,000. Those amounts refer to different configurations and sources at different times; they are not a like-for-like price comparison.

Who should consider buying one?

It may fit

  • Teams whose engineering, scientific, AI, or creative-professional applications are validated for high-core-count Threadripper PRO processors, professional GPUs, and large ECC memory configurations.
  • Workflows that need substantial expansion flexibility and can justify a workstation-class system configured around a specific workload.
  • Buyers prepared to specify components against application requirements rather than choosing the maximum CPU or GPU count by default.

Think carefully if

  • Your main application does not scale across many CPU cores or multiple GPUs; an expensive top-end configuration may not improve responsiveness or completion times.
  • You need a precise system price, power draw, noise level, or long-term reliability estimate. The available review does not establish representative power consumption, failure rates, or noise levels across all configurations.
  • You are comparing it with another workstation based on a single benchmark score. StorageReview’s findings varied by test, while no independent standardized 2026 comparison across the full model range is established here.

How to compare it with another workstation

Compare complete configurations and the software you actually run, not just model names. For a meaningful shortlist, line up the processor and core count, GPU model and number, memory capacity and ECC configuration, storage, operating system, and power supply. Then look for benchmark evidence from the same software version and workload. StorageReview’s 2024 figures offer a view of one high-end 7875 system against its tested HP Z6 G5 A and Precision 7960 systems, but they are not a current, standardized comparison of every available configuration.
