Dell confirmed that a threat actor accessed its Customer Solution Center in July 2025. Dell said the environment held primarily synthetic, public, or test material—not customer or partner data. Extortion group World Leaks, however, claimed it stole 1.3 TB across 416,103 files; those figures were not independently confirmed in the reporting.

What happened in the July 2025 Dell incident?

Dell said a threat actor gained access to its Customer Solution Center, an environment designed to demonstrate products and test proofs of concept for commercial customers. Dell described the center as separated from customer and partner systems and said it was not used to provide services to Dell customers. The Register reported Dell’s account; Dark Reading also reported the incident and Dell’s statements.

Dell characterized the accessed material as primarily synthetic (“fake”) data, publicly available datasets used for demonstrations, Dell scripts and systems data, non-sensitive information, or testing outputs. That is Dell’s description of the material during its investigation; the reporting did not independently verify the contents of any released files or the center’s security architecture.

What did World Leaks claim it stole?

World Leaks posted Dell on its leak site and claimed it had taken 1.3 TB of data in 416,103 files, according to The Register’s July 21, 2025 report. These are the group’s claims, not independently verified totals or figures confirmed by Dell. Reporting described World Leaks as having emerged from or rebranded from Hunters International.

How is this different from Dell’s May 2024 customer-data incident?

The July 2025 incident concerned access to a product demonstration and testing environment. Dell’s separate May 2024 notice described a database associated with a customer portal. Dell said that database included customer names, physical addresses, and hardware or order details such as service tags, item descriptions, order dates, and related warranty information. Dell said the 2024 incident did not involve email addresses, telephone numbers, financial or payment information, or highly sensitive customer information. TechCrunch reported Dell’s disclosure and the threat actor’s dataset claim.

What is still unknown about the 2025 intrusion?

  • How the intruder gained access.
  • The independently confirmed volume or contents of any stolen files.
  • The extortion demand, if any, and its amount.
  • What mitigations Dell applied or whether remediation was complete.

The public reporting cited here does not establish those details. It therefore does not support treating World Leaks’ volume as confirmed, or concluding that customer records were taken in the 2025 incident.
