Deflector uses iOS 27’s Shortcuts notification trigger to help launch a shortcut from a Dynamic Island or Lock Screen Live Activity. It is an app-mediated way to reach a shortcut—not a tool that adds action buttons to arbitrary notifications. The App Store listing requires iOS 27.0 or later and a Shortcuts automation.
What Deflector does
Apple’s Shortcuts event triggers can start a personal automation when a selected app receives a notification. Deflector builds on that capability: MacStories describes the app as a way to run a shortcut from your Shortcuts library through a Dynamic Island or Lock Screen Live Activity. The app’s App Store listing says iOS 27.0 or later is required and that users must set up an automation in Shortcuts. MacStories describes Deflector as a free utility by indie developer Cizzuk Shihu; check the listing for current availability and price.
This workflow has two parts: Shortcuts detects a qualifying notification, and Deflector provides a surface for reaching a selected shortcut. Apple describes shortcuts as one or more actions assembled to accomplish a task, and personal automations as workflows started by triggers such as events, travel, communication, or settings. See Apple’s Shortcuts guide.
How the notification trigger works
In Apple’s Shortcuts event-trigger guide, an App trigger lets you specify the app whose notification is received. For the notification event, the guide lists filters for Message, Subtitle, and Title. A matching notification can start the automation; those filters do not mean Shortcuts can inspect every detail of every notification. The content available depends on what the originating app supplies. Apple documents the trigger in its event-trigger guide.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Apple also says a personal automation can be edited to run without asking. That is a general Shortcuts setting, not proof that every Deflector setup has identical behavior. Follow the options shown on your device when configuring the automation.
Notification triggers are not notification buttons
A notification trigger and an actionable notification button are different mechanisms. The Shortcuts trigger starts an automation after a matching notification arrives. By contrast, Apple says the app that owns a notification declares its action categories and handles a selected action through its notification-center delegate. Deflector should therefore be understood as an app-mediated shortcut launcher, not as a way to attach native buttons to notifications from unrelated apps. See Apple’s documentation on actionable notification types.

What you need before setting it up
- An iPhone running iOS 27.0 or later, according to the Deflector App Store listing.
- The Shortcuts app and a personal automation configured to use the notification event.
- A notification from the app and matching criteria you intend to use. Apple lists Message, Subtitle, and Title as available filters; the source app determines what notification content is present.
- A shortcut in your Shortcuts library that you want to reach through Deflector.
MacStories identifies Dynamic Island and a Lock Screen Live Activity as Deflector’s launch surfaces. The available sources do not establish every interaction detail, including exactly how the interface behaves while the device is locked, so check the app’s current instructions and on-device prompts.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Deflector the right approach?
Use a native Shortcuts notification automation when the goal is to start an automation in response to a matching app notification. Deflector is relevant when you also want the shortcut-launch surface MacStories describes. If your goal is to tap an action embedded directly in another app’s notification, that is controlled by the notification-owning app, not created by this Shortcuts trigger.
