Arista says the flaw is actively exploited. If your VCO is on an affected build, prioritize upgrading to a release Arista lists as fixed; while arranging that, restrict access to its web interface and investigate for signs of compromise.
What does CVE-2026-93952 affect?
Arista Networks’ Security Advisory 0183, published September 22, 2026, classifies CVE-2026-93952 as CWE-20, Improper Input Validation. Arista assigns it a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 10.0 and a CVSS v4.0 Base Score of 9.5. These are standardized severity ratings, not estimates of the probability that a particular deployment will be breached.
The advisory says: “This issue was discovered externally and is known to be actively exploited.” Successful exploitation may compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the orchestrator and data it manages. Arista also describes potential access to privileged internal functionality and impact to the VCO host.
The affected platform is VeloCloud Orchestrator On-Prem. Arista lists VeloCloud Gateway and VeloCloud Edge as not affected by this issue. Hosted VCO, including Dedicated, was impacted, but Arista says those versions have already been patched. This is not a vulnerability in every VeloCloud device or a report about Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN incidents.

Which VCO versions are affected or fixed?
Arista’s advisory lists the following affected release ranges and currently identified fixes. Check the live advisory and supported-train upgrade information before choosing a production target, because Arista says fixes for other trains will be added over time.
| Release train | Affected releases listed by Arista | Fixed release identified by Arista |
|---|---|---|
| 5.2.x | 5.2.3.15 and below | 5.2.3.16 and later in the 5.2.3 train |
| 6.1.x | 6.1.3.7 and below | Not stated in Security Advisory 0183; Arista says fixes for other trains will be added over time. |
| 6.4.x | 6.4.2.7 and below | 6.4.2.8 and later in the 6.4.2 train |
| 7.0.x | 7.0.0.2 and below | Not stated in Security Advisory 0183; Arista says fixes for other trains will be added over time. |
The advisory tracks the issue as Arista bugs BUG1907167 and BUG1937417. If your installation is on a train without a fixed release identified in the advisory, Arista recommends contacting TAC to discuss upgrade options rather than assuming another train’s fix applies.
How do you know whether your VCO is exposed?
Arista says exposure requires all three of these conditions:

- 【Five Gigabit Ports】1 Gigabit WAN Port plus 2 Gigabit WAN/LAN Ports plus 2 Gigabit LAN Port. Up to 3 WAN ports optimize bandwidth usage through one device.
- 【One USB WAN Port】Mobile broadband via 4G/3G modem is supported for WAN backup by connecting to the USB port. For complete list of compatible 4G/3G modems, please visit TP-Link website.
- 【Abundant Security Features】Advanced firewall policies, DoS defense, IP/MAC/URL filtering, speed test and more security functions protect your network and data.
- 【Highly Secure VPN】Supports up to 20× LAN-to-LAN IPsec, 16× OpenVPN, 16× L2TP, and 16× PPTP VPN connections.
- Security - SPI Firewall, VPN Pass through, FTP/H.323/PPTP/SIP/IPsec ALG, DoS Defence, Ping of Death and Local Management. Standards and Protocols IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, 802.3ab, IEEE 802.3x, IEEE 802.1q
- Certificate-based authentication from VeloCloud Edge to VCO is configured.
- The public portion of the Edge authentication certificate is available to the attacker.
- The attacker can reach the VCO web interface over the network.
VCO tenant or operator credentials are not required. A practical exposure check therefore needs more than a version lookup: establish the deployment type, exact release train and build, Edge-to-VCO authentication configuration, and which network sources can reach the management interface. Confirm the result against Arista’s advisory; an inventory review is not a substitute for vendor confirmation.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Restricting the web interface to trusted administrative networks can reduce network exposure. That control does not remove the need to install a fixed release or to assess whether the system was already accessed.
What should you do first?
1. Confirm scope and plan the upgrade
- Identify each VCO instance and record whether it is on-prem or hosted, its exact build and train, its Edge authentication configuration, and allowed sources for web-interface access.
- Compare each on-prem build with the affected and fixed releases in Arista Security Advisory 0183. Verify the current supported upgrade path before selecting a target, especially for trains without a fix identified there.
- Upgrade to a fixed VCO release as soon as available. If your version is on an unsupported train, contact Arista TAC to discuss upgrade options.
2. Reduce exposure while the upgrade is pending
Arista recommends defense-in-depth measures while customers await fixed software. Apply controls that fit the deployment and do not disrupt required operations:

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
- Limit VCO web-interface access to trusted administrative networks and known, trusted sources.
- Monitor access from known malicious IP addresses and investigate unexpected outbound network activity from the VCO host.
- Consider blocking outbound ports that are not needed for normal operation.
- Monitor for backdoor daemons and webshells, and review administrator activity for unexpected changes.
These are interim risk-reduction measures, not a replacement for upgrading.
How should you look for signs of compromise?
Arista says there is no single definitive indicator of compromise. Review VCO web-access logs for unusual activity, including unexpected URL-like path components, encoded characters, references to local or internal services, or unusually high request rates. Correlate web requests with backend application and system logs rather than judging an entry in isolation.
Investigate unexpected outbound HTTP or HTTPS traffic and unexplained sensitive configuration changes. Also look for unusual privileged maintenance actions, command execution, file creation, database exports or archives, and access to database contents or sensitive material such as configuration data, device inventory, credentials, certificates, or keys.

- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
After remediation, Arista says response may include rotating credentials, reviewing administrator activity, validating the state of managed devices, and restoring or replacing affected orchestrator instances from trusted sources. Because VCO manages edges, recovery should include checking that managed-device configuration and state are expected—not just confirming that the orchestrator is running again.
What broader SD-WAN controller lessons apply?
The most transferable lesson is to treat the controller management plane as a high-value target: limit who can reach it, keep its software on a supported and patched path, and be able to examine its activity. Cisco’s guidance for its own Catalyst SD-WAN control components similarly recommends preventing access from unsecured networks and placing controllers behind filtering that permits only known, trusted hosts. That is cross-vendor hardening context, not an Arista fix for CVE-2026-93952.
A CISA-led multi-agency advisory on exploited Cisco SD-WAN appliances separately urges defenders to collect artifacts, patch the affected technology, hunt for compromise, and implement vendor hardening guidance. Its Cisco-specific activity is not evidence about exploitation of this VCO vulnerability. The shared operational principle is to pair patching with evidence review and access controls.
For future readiness, maintain an inventory of controller versions and exposure, restrict management-plane reachability, follow the vendor’s supported patch path, review logs and configuration for unauthorized changes, preserve evidence when compromise is suspected, and validate managed edge state after recovery. A generic firewall alone should not be treated as a fix for a software vulnerability.
