Atlassian says CVE-2026-21582 is a high-severity authentication flaw in Bitbucket Data Center that could let an unauthenticated attacker act as another user. Its September 15, 2026 bulletin lists fixed releases for three version trains. The material available here does not verify a specific CISA warning or confirm that CISA listed this CVE as exploited, so administrators should treat the vendor advisory as the basis for remediation and check CISA’s catalog directly for any later update.

Is your Bitbucket Data Center version affected?
Atlassian’s September 15, 2026 bulletin identifies the following affected and fixed releases. Match your installed version to its own release train; a fixed version on another train is not a substitute for an upgrade path supported by your deployment.
| Bitbucket Data Center train | Affected versions listed by Atlassian | Fixed versions listed by Atlassian |
|---|---|---|
| 9.4 | 9.4.0–9.4.23 | 9.4.24 |
| 10.2 | 10.2.0–10.2.5 | 10.2.6–10.2.7 |
| 10.4 | 10.4.0–10.4.1 | 10.4.2–10.4.3 |
Atlassian’s issue page separately recommends upgrading to at least 9.4.23, 10.2.6, or 10.4.2 on the matching train. The bulletin’s fuller version list is dated September 15, 2026; check Atlassian’s current release notes and support information before choosing a target, because later releases may be available.

How to remediate
- Identify the installed version. Check your Bitbucket Data Center version and determine whether it falls within an affected range in Atlassian’s bulletin.
- Choose a supported upgrade target on the same train. Use a fixed version listed above as a minimum reference, or follow Atlassian’s recommendation to upgrade to the latest Bitbucket Data Center version. Consult current Atlassian release documentation for upgrade compatibility and any environment-specific requirements.
- Plan and apply the upgrade. Follow Atlassian’s documented upgrade procedure for your deployment, including its compatibility guidance and maintenance-window planning. The cited vulnerability records do not specify a universal procedure or downtime estimate.
- Confirm the running version. After the upgrade, verify that the instance is running the intended fixed or later supported release. Keep the change record with the version and completion time.
Atlassian’s recommendation is to upgrade to the latest version, or to a listed fixed release if adopting the latest version is not immediately possible. See the vendor security bulletin and issue record for the vendor’s current advisory details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is confirmed about the CISA warning?
The headline refers to CISA warning about attacks exploiting the vulnerability, but the CISA page cited here is the general Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) Catalog; it does not confirm a CVE-2026-21582 entry or the specific warning. CISA describes KEV as an authoritative catalog of vulnerabilities exploited in the wild and recommends using it to prioritize vulnerability management. The available source material therefore does not establish a CISA listing date, federal remediation deadline, exploitation timeline, threat actor, or campaign for this CVE.
