A cliff delays the first scheduled release; linear vesting spreads releases over time. An unlock can make tokens available to recipients, but it does not by itself mean they enter every provider’s circulating-supply count, move to an exchange, get sold, or cause a price change.
What a token vesting schedule tells you
Projects may assign portions of a token supply to groups such as contributors, investors, a community, a treasury, or a public sale. A vesting schedule describes when some or all of an allocation becomes releasable. Read its percentages against the stated denominator: a percentage of one group’s allocation is not the same as a percentage of total supply or current circulating supply.
Schedules can include a token generation event (TGE) release, a cliff, and a later release pattern. A TGE unlock is an amount available at launch if the terms specify one; it is not a universal feature. The exact meaning of “unlock” depends on the token’s terms, contract, claim process, and custody arrangements.
Cliffs, linear vesting, and unlocks
Cliff
A cliff is a waiting period before the first scheduled release. When it ends, the schedule may release an amount at once, begin a continuing vesting stream, or specify another arrangement. The word alone does not tell you how much becomes available: check the schedule’s actual terms.

Linear vesting
Linear vesting releases an allocation at a steady rate over a stated period, though the cadence and implementation vary. Nibiru says its linear vesting is continuous and automated by smart contracts, with small amounts released each block; that describes NIBI’s implementation, not a rule for all tokens. Nibiru’s vesting documentation was last updated on November 12, 2024, according to its listed update history.
Unlock is not the same as sale
An unlock is a scheduled release or change in restriction status. It does not establish that a recipient has claimed the tokens, can transfer them immediately, has sent them to an exchange, or has sold them. Those are separate events that require separate evidence.

Token unlocks and dilution are related, but distinct
“Dilution” can describe different supply effects, so identify the mechanism before drawing a conclusion. Newly issued tokens increase total supply. Previously issued tokens becoming available after being locked may instead increase the liquid portion of supply or the amount a data provider classifies as circulating. These changes are not interchangeable, and an unlock does not necessarily create new tokens.
For market analysis, the relevant comparison may be the release against total supply, current circulating supply, or the recipient group’s allocation. State which denominator you use. A large percentage of a small allocation can be a small share of total supply; a smaller allocation percentage can still be material relative to the current float.

The figures below come from the projects’ own published tokenomics pages. They illustrate different allocations and terms; they are not industry standards.

Nibiru reports a fully diluted supply of 1.5 billion NIBI tokens. Its project-specific allocations and vesting terms are published in its vesting documentation. OpenLedger Foundation publishes its $OPEN allocation terms on its token allocation page. The table preserves the denominator stated by each project; do not compare the percentages as though NIBI and $OPEN had the same supply or market context.

How to read and verify a schedule
- Separate the recipient groups. Record each disclosed allocation—such as team, investors, ecosystem, treasury, public sale, or liquidity—rather than treating all scheduled releases as one pool.
- Write down the denominator. Note whether each figure is a share of an allocation, total supply, or circulating supply, and record the amount scheduled for release as well as the percentage.
- Map the timing terms. Capture any TGE release, cliff length, post-cliff pattern, duration, cadence, and milestone conditions. Do not infer exact calendar dates from wording such as “monthly after TGE” unless the project defines the date convention.
- Check what enforces the schedule. A published project schedule and an on-chain vesting contract are different kinds of evidence. Tokenomist says schedule data may come from public project information, vesting contracts, private confirmations, or on-chain inference; follow a dashboard’s assumptions back to the project disclosure or relevant on-chain evidence where possible. See its methodology.
- Note date precision. Tokenomist distinguishes month-, week-, day-, hour-, block-, second-, and undetermined timing. Its methodology notes that a month-level date can mean any time in that month and that some dates are estimates when details are incomplete. Treat an estimated month as less precise than a disclosed on-chain timestamp.
- Trace the event beyond the calendar. Determine separately whether tokens are claimable, transferable, counted as circulating by a particular provider, transferred to an exchange, or sold. A schedule alone confirms none of those later steps.
- Compare on a consistent basis. For two allocations, compare initial unlocked share, release relative to current float, recipient concentration, cliff versus gradual vesting, duration, and evidence quality. A longer schedule alone does not prove lower risk.
Tokenomist describes its token pages as bringing allocations, release schedules, emissions, and tokenomics references together. Its methodology and feature overview make the service useful for discovering schedules, but its precision labels and assumptions matter when you rely on a date.

A scheduled release can change how many tokens are available to recipients. Its possible market effect depends on the size of the release relative to the relevant supply measure, recipients’ ability to transfer or sell, how concentrated the allocation is, market liquidity, demand, and recipient behavior. The calendar does not establish that recipients will sell or that a token’s price will fall. The reviewed material does not support a reliable universal percentage price decline around unlocks, so a schedule should not be treated as a standalone price forecast.
