If you want the world itself—and the range of ways to move through and engage with it—to be a major part of the appeal, those are the features that point toward Crimson Desert.
Its combat description also stresses variety: chaining weapons and hand-to-hand moves, using flexible skills, and incorporating traversal. Pearl Abyss sums up the design philosophy on its official game site: “On the unforgiving battlefields of Crimson Desert, there is no single path to victory.” That is a description of its intended flexibility, not evidence that its combat is objectively deeper or better.

Pick Dragon’s Dogma 2 for a travelling party
Dragon’s Dogma 2 stands out in the official material for its pawn system. Capcom says its AI-controlled pawns act as travelling companions, giving players “a taste of adventuring in a group when playing solo.” If you want the feel of a party on the road without relying on human co-op partners, this is the more direct match.
Capcom also highlights freedom of action, but the descriptions reviewed here do not provide a basis for ranking either game’s combat quality or depth. Choose by the systems and style that appeal to you rather than assuming one is the more substantial RPG.
