Crimson Desert is currently presented as a single-player game, and Pearl Abyss has not announced official co-op in the product and update materials reviewed through October 7, 2026. A community developer has reported early networking and character-spawning progress on an unofficial co-op mod, but says it is not playable co-op yet. Treat the game as single-player for now; treat the mod as experimental work in progress, not a ready multiplayer option.
Has Pearl Abyss announced official multiplayer or co-op?
No official co-op announcement appears in the reviewed Pearl Abyss product, launch, support, or update materials. That means there is no announced official co-op feature, release date, or feature scope to plan around; it does not prove Pearl Abyss has ruled out multiplayer permanently.
Pearl Abyss describes Crimson Desert as an open-world action-adventure. Its March 19, 2026 worldwide launch announcement lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Apple Mac, and Epic Games Store. What does the co-op mod actually do?
In a Reddit post, the project developer reports building a host/join networking layer and successfully relaying packets between two running game instances. A later update in the thread reports repeatable spawning of a native humanoid character. These are developer-reported technical milestones, not independently verified results or evidence of a complete multiplayer experience. See the developer’s project thread.

The key distinction is that getting two game instances to communicate and creating another character in the game world do not, by themselves, make that character a playable second player. The project author says the spawned body is not yet assigned to a remote player or session and states: “So this is not playable co-op yet.”

- A camera that works for the second player.
- Animation and combat integration.
- Persistence as players cross streaming boundaries.
- Reliable cleanup of spawned characters or session state.
- Broader stability testing with two game instances.
The post does not establish a verified, public release that players can install and use. Its status may change, so check the developer’s thread for a current build and instructions before relying on it. Do not assume that a mention of host/join networking means a public, stable mod is available.
Does offline play mean the game has multiplayer?
No. Pearl Abyss’s support FAQ, updated June 23, 2026, says an internet connection is needed for initial setup and updates, but that after installation “the game can be enjoyed in its entirety offline.” This describes offline access to the installed game; it is not evidence of online co-op or another multiplayer mode. Do cross-save and planned updates point to co-op?
Not in the materials reviewed. Pearl Abyss’s June 2, 2026 update announcement covers planned work from June through September, including story presentation, combat content, character usability, quality-of-life improvements, cross-save, and future DLC development. It does not announce multiplayer. Cross-save concerns carrying progress between platforms; it is not co-op. - If you are deciding whether to buy the game for co-op: do not buy it on the expectation that co-op is available. Buying the PS5 physical edition, or the game on another listed platform, does not enable co-op.
- If you already own it: approach it as a single-player game unless Pearl Abyss announces an official multiplayer feature.
- If you want to follow the mod: check the developer’s original thread for current progress and an actual public release before attempting an installation. The cited post does not establish that one is available.
