If you are deciding which version to get, check the platform and format first: a PS4 disc does not qualify for the no-extra-cost PS5 upgrade if you own the disc-free PS5 Digital Edition.

How does the gameplay work?
Movement and play modes
The Activision FAQ highlights wall running, rail grinding, and rope swinging. It also lists a choice between Modern and Retro play. These features may help distinguish the game from earlier entries, but the official description does not provide a detailed comparison of how the modes change difficulty or progression.

Playable characters and alternate paths
The official game site says players can choose between Crash and Coco throughout the game. It also describes alternate timeline paths that offer different perspectives and gameplay. The site does not establish that every path is available in every level.
Which platforms can you play it on?
Activision’s support FAQ lists these platforms and PC storefronts:
Rank #2
- Neo Cortex and n. Tropy are back at it again and launching an all-out assault on not just this universe, but the entire multiverse! Crash and Coco are here to save the day by reuniting the four quantum masks and bending the rules of reality.
- New abilities? Check. More playable characters? Yep. Alternate Dimensions? Obviously. Ridonkulous bosses? For sure. Same awesome sauce? You bet your sweet jorts. Wait, are they actually jorts? Not in this universe!
- 2020-2021 Activision publishing, Inc. Activision, crash and Crash Bandicoot are trademarks of Activision publishing, Inc. All other trademarks and trade names are the property of their respective owners.
- PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
- Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
- Nintendo Switch
- PC through Battle.net and Steam
The Nintendo Switch store page and PlayStation product page provide official storefront paths. A platform listing does not guarantee that a copy is currently in stock or available at a particular price in your region.
What should you check before buying?
- Match the game to your device. Confirm the platform and store before purchasing; a console or PC version is not automatically interchangeable with another platform’s copy.
- Choose physical or digital deliberately. A disc copy requires a console with a disc drive. This matters especially when comparing a PS4 disc with the disc-free PS5 Digital Edition.
- Check regional listing details. Store availability, edition, and price can vary by region and change over time. Verify the current listing rather than relying on the platform list alone.
- Consider portability. Switch is an option if handheld play matters to you; the official platform list does not establish a performance comparison with other versions.
Important PS4-to-PS5 disc limitation
PlayStation’s product page warns: “PS4™ game disc owners who buy the PS5™ Digital Edition disc-free console will not be able to get the PS5™ version at no extra cost.” If you own a PS4 disc and plan to use a PS5 upgrade path, check console compatibility before buying or upgrading.

Activision says an internet connection is required for online leaderboards and Activision account registration. That statement does not establish that all gameplay requires an internet connection.
