Possibly—but it is too early to say that Samsung will gain sales. Prelaunch reports point to a difficult iPhone Duo production ramp, while TrendForce forecasts Samsung leading the foldable-phone market in 2026. That gives Samsung a potential opening with buyers who cannot get Apple’s first foldable, not proof that those buyers will switch.
Why the iPhone Duo may be hard to get
Apple has not publicly quantified the Duo’s production yield in the cited reporting. On September 29, 2026, MacRumors relayed a Jiemian News report citing a person described as close to Foxconn’s supply chain: final-assembly yield was slightly above 60% on September 17, while the line was still being tuned. The report said mature yield could take another six months to a year under Apple’s quality standards. These are unnamed-source claims, not Apple-confirmed production figures. MacRumors’ report
The same account attributed delays and late deliveries to Samsung Display foldable OLED panels and hinge components, saying they left less time to tune assembly. It also relayed a Jiemian estimate of 6–8 million units as a global stocking target for 2026. Separately, a MyDrivers report described a contract manufacturer asking Apple to choose between yield and output, with faster production potentially raising defects and scrap. Neither report establishes Apple’s final production plan.
How many iPhone Duo units might ship in 2026?
There is no single settled figure: the published numbers are different third-party estimates and do not necessarily measure the same thing.

Why Samsung could be positioned to benefit
Samsung already has a substantial foldable-phone business, and TrendForce’s September 10 forecast put it ahead of Apple for 2026. TrendForce forecast 20.2 million global foldable shipments, up 0.5% year over year, with Samsung at 7.1 million and 35.1% market share. It forecast Apple at about 5 million and 24.8%. These are forecasts, not final shipment results.

A supply-constrained Apple launch could give Samsung an opportunity to appeal to shoppers who want a foldable now or do not want to wait for an iPhone Duo. But that is a plausible competitive opening—not evidence of a measured customer transfer or a sales increase for Samsung.
There is also a category-wide complication: TrendForce said early incremental demand from the Duo was primarily offsetting declines among existing foldable brands. It estimated Android brands excluding Apple would total around 15.2 million units, down more than 20% year over year. A new entrant can therefore attract attention without automatically expanding the market or lifting every rival.

Samsung Display is a supplier, not the same business as Samsung’s phone unit
The supply-chain report says Samsung Display provides foldable OLED panels for the Duo. That is distinct from Samsung Electronics competing to sell foldable handsets. The reported component relationship does not establish how much Samsung Display earns, whether component supply is itself constrained, or whether Samsung’s handset business will gain from the Duo’s availability problems. The Associated Press reported that the iPhone Duo opens to a 7.6-inch display, supports two-app split-screen use or two windows of the same website, and starts at $1,999 in the United States. MacRumors reported that preorders are scheduled for October 16 and first availability for October 23, 2026. As of October 5, those dates are still in the future, so actual inventory, delivery estimates and wait times are not yet established. Availability is only one part of the decision. A buyer comparing the Duo with a Samsung foldable should check the specific model’s price and delivery date, open and cover-screen sizes, weight and thickness, crease visibility, hinge and durability evidence, multitasking features, camera trade-offs, and local warranty and support terms. The cited market forecasts do not establish a model-by-model comparison on those points, and broad category claims cannot substitute for checking the devices being considered.
The Duo is Apple’s entry into the foldable category. CCS Insight chief analyst Ben Wood told the Associated Press, “The device adds a distinctive new design to the iPhone lineup and marks the company’s entry into the niche foldable smartphone category.” That describes a competitive shift, but it does not predict where buyers will go if launch supply is tight.
