Possibly—but it is too early to say that an iPhone Air 2 would deliver much better battery life than the Galaxy S25 Edge. A 3,500 mAh battery for the next Air is a supply-chain rumor, not an Apple-confirmed specification, and no cited test measures an Air 2. In one controlled comparison of the current phones, the iPhone Air lasted just 14 minutes longer than the S25 Edge in web surfing.
What is rumored about the iPhone Air 2 battery?
MacRumors reported on July 7, 2026, that supply-chain leaker Digital Chat Station predicted a 3,500 mAh battery for the iPhone Air 2. The report also describes a possible thinner display as a way Apple could fit a larger battery while keeping the phone’s dimensions similar. Neither the battery figure nor that packaging scenario is confirmed by Apple. MacRumors’ report should therefore be read as a rumor, not a specification or performance promise.
For context, Apple lists the current iPhone Air’s rated battery capacity as 3,149 mAh in its Irish technical specifications. That makes the rumored Air 2 figure about 11% higher on paper, but capacity alone does not predict how long a phone lasts. Apple also lists 40 hours of battery endurance per cycle under its EU regulatory product information; that standardized figure is not directly comparable to everyday mixed use or to a web-surfing test. Apple’s iPhone Air specifications identify the current model, not Air 2.
How do the current iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge compare?
The capacity figures are not perfectly like-for-like: Samsung gives a typical capacity for the S25 Edge on its US product page, while its Newsroom specifies the rated minimum. Keep those labels in mind when comparing them with Apple’s rated figure.

Despite the S25 Edge’s larger listed capacity, Tom’s Guide measured 12 hours and 2 minutes for the current iPhone Air and 11 hours and 48 minutes for the Galaxy S25 Edge in its continuous web-surfing test at 150 nits. That 14-minute difference applies only to those phones under that publisher’s test conditions; it does not establish how either phone performs in every use pattern. Tom’s Guide’s comparison also reports a separate Wi-Fi video rundown in which the Air had 81% charge remaining after five hours and the S25 Edge had 67%. Those are remaining-charge results from that test, not universal playback-hour ratings.
Why a bigger battery would not guarantee longer runtime
Battery capacity is only one part of endurance. Display power use, processor efficiency, software, signal strength, workload and brightness all affect how quickly a phone consumes its charge. Samsung specifically cautions that S25 Edge battery life varies with network environment, usage patterns and other factors. A rumored increase from 3,149 mAh to 3,500 mAh could help, but it cannot by itself show that an Air 2 would outlast the S25 Edge.
Likewise, a thinner display could create more room for a battery, as the rumor suggests, but a thinner phone does not automatically have a larger cell or better endurance. The outcome would depend on Apple’s final design and efficiency choices, as well as testing under comparable conditions. No cited source provides an iPhone Air 2 prototype result or a direct Air 2-versus-S25 Edge test.
What can improve battery life on the current iPhone Air?
For buyers considering the current Air, Tom’s Guide recorded 17 hours and 15 minutes of continuous web surfing with Apple’s iPhone Air MagSafe Battery attached, compared with 12 hours and 2 minutes for the phone alone in the same table. This is a result from that test, not a guarantee for all-day use or evidence about Air 2. Apple describes the accessory as a dedicated MagSafe Battery for iPhone Air in its launch announcement. Apple’s announcement also says the current Air’s camera plateau design “maximizes space for the battery to deliver remarkable all-day battery life”; that is Apple’s promotional description of the current phone, not an Air 2 performance claim.

Tom’s Guide also notes that the Galaxy S25 Edge lacks the magnets needed for Qi2 charging, and that a case is needed to add that functionality. Check case compatibility and current product details before buying an accessory.

The useful comparison will be an independent test of a retail iPhone Air 2 and Galaxy S25 Edge under the same workload, brightness, software conditions and network. Until such a result exists—and Apple confirms the Air 2’s battery specifications—the 3,500 mAh figure and the possibility of a thinner-display design remain clues about a potential capacity increase, not proof of substantially longer battery life.
