The COROS APEX 2 Pro remains a capable outdoor GPS watch for runners, hikers, and other athletes who want offline maps, dual-frequency GPS, and long advertised battery life. Its strongest case is endurance and trail-focused navigation; its clearest drawbacks are the lack of turn-by-turn directions and ANT+ support, plus the arrival of a newer successor. Whether it is a good buy now depends on its local price and whether its map and sensor features fit your needs.
What the APEX 2 Pro is—and what stands out
The APEX 2 Pro is an outdoor GPS training watch rather than a general-purpose smartwatch. COROS lists a 1.3-inch sapphire-glass screen, grade 5 titanium-alloy bezel, 5 ATM water resistance, a digital dial designed to be usable with gloves, offline maps, and dual-frequency GNSS. The company says it supports all five major satellite systems. The box includes a watchband and charging cable. See the COROS APEX 2/2 Pro product page.
Those materials and controls suit outdoor use, but the Cycling Weekly guide also lists bulk as a drawback. That is worth weighing if you prefer a smaller or lighter-feeling watch; the evidence here does not establish a direct APEX 2 Pro comfort comparison against other models.
Battery life: choose the estimate for your GPS mode
COROS advertises up to 21 days of regular use and 66 hours of full GPS use for the Pro. Its more detailed battery table separates daily use and GPS modes, which is more useful than treating one headline number as a typical result. These are COROS estimates, not guaranteed runtimes; actual endurance varies with settings and use. The figures below are for the APEX 2 Pro, not the non-Pro APEX 2.

| Use or GPS mode | COROS estimate |
|---|---|
| Daily use with Daily Stress enabled | 21 days |
| Daily use without Daily Stress | 24 days |
| Standard Full GPS | 66 hours |
| All Systems On | 41 hours |
| Dual Frequency | 24 hours |
| Standard Full GPS with music | 32 hours |
| All Systems On with music | 15 hours |
| Dual Frequency with music | 12 hours |
COROS notes that sleep tracking affects daily battery estimates. The mode distinction matters for long outings: dual-frequency positioning has a substantially lower stated endurance than Standard Full GPS, and music reduces each GPS-mode estimate further. Check the settings you expect to use rather than planning around the highest number. The full table is in COROS’s Battery Specifications.
Why older reviews may quote 75 hours
The older 75-hour Standard Full GPS estimate is not the current figure. COROS says a February 2024 heart-rate algorithm update and small GPS firmware changes revised the APEX 2 Pro estimates: Standard Full GPS went from 75 to 66 hours, All Systems On from 45 to 41 hours, and Dual Frequency from 26 to 24 hours. COROS says the heart-rate change was intended to improve wrist-based heart-rate accuracy. The current comparison and update explanation appear in its battery documentation.

Maps and route navigation
COROS provides free global offline maps. A December 2025 update added map detail on the APEX 2 and APEX 2 Pro that distinguishes roads and trails by color and line style. That can make it easier to read a route when you are away from a phone connection. See the December 2025 COROS feature update.
Offline maps do not mean turn-by-turn guidance. Cycling Weekly reports that the APEX 2 Pro can follow a GPX trace but does not provide turn-by-turn directions. If you need the watch to call out every turn, that limitation may outweigh its mapping capability. For a preplanned route and visual orientation, GPX following and offline maps may be enough.

Training, sensors, and software
COROS continues to add software features to the APEX 2 Pro. Its release notes document additions including Strava Live Segments, Group Tracking and meetup points, Safety Alerts, and sport and training features. Safety Alerts require a phone and cellular signal. Feature availability can depend on firmware and connected-phone conditions, so check the release notes for the feature you plan to use.
Cycling Weekly’s 2026 guide lists the watch among its tested models. Its tester compared wrist heart-rate readings with a chest strap and found them accurate in that test; the guide also cites long battery life, setup and customization, and activity variety as positives. Those are the publication’s observations, not a guarantee of identical readings or runtime for every wearer.

The same guide lists no ANT+ as a downside. That matters if your cycling sensors or other accessories require ANT+; confirm that the devices you intend to pair use a supported connection before buying. Cycling Weekly also notes the watch’s bulk as a trade-off. Read its 2026 cycling smartwatch guide for its test context.

The buying case is strongest if you want an outdoor-focused watch with offline maps, dual-frequency GNSS, a rugged material specification, and long COROS-estimated endurance in less demanding GPS modes. It is less compelling if you require turn-by-turn route prompts, ANT+ sensor connectivity, or a less bulky watch.

There is also a newer model to consider. Tom’s Guide’s 2025 review identifies the 46 mm APEX 4 as the successor to the APEX 2 Pro. It reported launch pricing of $479 / £429 for that APEX 4 configuration, but those are historical launch prices, not current quotes, and its testing results apply to the APEX 4—not this watch. Check the live price and availability of both models in your region before deciding; current APEX 2 Pro retail pricing and stock are not established here. See Tom’s Guide’s APEX 4 review.
Compare the actual prices available to you, the case feel and materials, the GPS mode you will use, your need for turn-by-turn guidance, and whether your sensors depend on ANT+. If the APEX 2 Pro is meaningfully less expensive than the successor and its route and connectivity limits are acceptable, it remains a sensible outdoor-training option. If the prices are close, the newer model deserves consideration—but compare its current specifications and features directly rather than assuming every APEX 2 Pro limitation or advantage carries over.
